So you may have heard of Delorean Bluetooth Company. Well, I was looking for a way to upgrade my stock Craig Radio and have some nice modern touches. I saw some things on Facebook about Delorean Bluetooth Company and I also saw Dave Tavres youtube video and thought that was a cool upgrade. I contacted Dimitri and shipped my Radio to France.... Dimitri had a super quick turnaround time and I had the radio back in no time. It comes with a switch installed that allows you to switch between radio and bluetooth functions. Also a microphone that you can put somewhere discretely and make hands free calls with your phone. If you've ever tried to drive a 5 speed with the phone to your ear this is difficult.
All in all I highly recommend this to anyone wanting to keep the stock radio their car but are looking to add some modern flair. Also Dimitri repairs my tape deck (bad drive belt) and cleaned the pots and other parts of the internals. This radio is like new. I am very happy with it. Just thought I'd share the information on this.

What's the cost to rebuild the cassette (I think it just needs new belts) and install the Bluetooth?

Does it change the appearance of the radio? My cassette is eating tapes and the lights on the dial are broken up and can't read numbers - prpbably the cable which bends when dassette door opened. Orther wise fine. What price to fix and ship? [email protected]

Do NOT send your radio or buy one from Dimitri. It is well documented on the Facebook groups with many previous customers of his on what a total scam and hack job he?s done ruining radios and using low quality components. There are two people stateside that can work on the Craig and ASI radios refurbing them and adding quality Bluetooth.

Yes, I am still doing Craig radio repairs. I can also add an AUX input for a BlueTooth adapter.

FWIW, I think using an internal BT adapter is a bad idea because it is a constantly evolving technology. The way I do it, you can buy whatever the latest and greatest adapter is (typically less than $10 on Amazon) and plug it in to the AUX input I can add.

But, TBH- the FM modulators (also on Amazon) work very well and are a lot less expensive than modifying your radio.

The customer if always correct, so I will do whatever I am asked to even if I don't think it is the best solution!

For the radio repair, there are a number of known weaknesses that go beyond just replacing the belt. The most common is the display flex cable cracking causing the display to not work. There are also some issues with the motor speed governor, FM receiver (no stereo), and the audio amplifier. I address all of those problems (even if they have not broken yet).

In the end, I sourced my own Bluetooth board that passes an audio signal through it when a phone is not connected (so the stock AM/FM/Cassette work normally), and automatically switches over to the phone's audio when the phone is playing audio. Hector's took care of modifying the radio and running all the wires that I needed into a breakout box. This was a real specific request from me. They're able to completely do the work for you if you're not as picky as I am.

Douchey? Wow, how about getting off your high horse. I didn’t know it would be appropriate to advertise on the board. It’s no secret, if you search the Facebook groups you can very easily find the posts and how the updates are being performed. Since Marc already posted, yes… Marc for Craig and Eric for ASI.

This guy might be worth a try too. BMW used a very similar ASI in the early 1980s in the E30.
