Original door key with light

Looking through my stack of documents today I came across my original door key. However the light is long gone and the key is cracked.

Is there anyway to repair this and bring it back? I searched the threads and could not find anything.

Dont leave me hanging, how did you do it. The key in particular looks glued in there, can’t figure how to get it out without cracking the thing.

Thanks Jonathan, but still not sure how to replace my broken key and separate it from the plastic housing.

I used my Dremel and ground off the old epoxy that held it in. I then used an old Volvo key blank made by Ilco. I cut the head down to match the original that was in the lighted key. Then I just used a plastic epoxy to reset it in there. I can still take it apart to change the battery if I need to. I also upgraded to an LED.

You can 3D print it but you're on your own for the electronics. I pulled an LED and button from a cheap keychain and it fit perfectly. If you don't have access to a 3d printer, a lot of libraries have them and will print objects for you. I think ours charges 10 cents a gram.

I wouldn’t be too concerned about someone copying your DeLorean key. This car has got to be the easiest car to hot wire.

If thieves want your car bad enough they can flat-bed it like you see them do on repo shows. Or, with modern cars, the keys are hard to do and are expensive so they just carjack it from you. Bottom line, if they want the car bad enough they will get it. That is one of the reasons you have insurance. A battery master switch is also a good idea since, unless you are familiar with Deloreans, they won't want to waste a lot of time looking for it!

Not sure if this comment was for me. There was no reason to post my key, plus mine is cracked off. Plus now a days you would be surprised how many people cannot drive a stick shift. I think that is the best theft deterrent.
