Fuel pump harness wire size?

I am making a replacement fuel pump wiring harness and wondered what you all thought would be the best size (gauge) of wire to use?

I have new terminals for the pump end (ring terminals and rubber covers that came with the replacement pump from DeLoGO) and I have a replacement plastic connector for the car side (also from DeLoGO). I don't care about matching the original colours exactly, will likely just go black for the ground (-ve side) and red or white for the power (+ve side).

The fuel pumps seem to use 7 amps so if it was just safety than 16 AWG would be safe but you have to account for voltage drop if the wiring is pretty long. So 12 AWG would be what I would use since it is a pretty long run of wire.

16 gauge is right for the 7 amps? I am only doing the short length that goes from the top of the pump to the quick connect outside the rubber boot. I think the originals are only about 12" long.

Yes that short run would be fine for 16 AWG. The voltage drop for that short distance would be negotiable.
