I bought mine on Halloween 2008 so that puts me at around 10 1/2 years. Picking up the car was a 500 mile drive home from Sandusky, Ohio to Appleton, Wisconsin and I just missed the first snow storm of the season. The next day we got 12+ inches of snow so I made it back just in time. Then I had to wait another 6 months until spring before I could drive it again.

2005/2006 time frame, so 13-14 years. Started at ~43,400 miles and only put about 2,500 miles on her since buying her. It's been a long, steady but rewarding replacement, refurbishment, and back-engineering of parts. Better today than she was yesterday, and she'll be better tomorrow than she is today. Very soon, she'll be daily-driver and long-distance road worthy, then I can catch up on everyone else's mileage. :)

And the best part of it all? The crazy, wonderful, and wacky people I've met on this forum and when out and about. You guys really make owning one of these a pleasure. :cheers1:

Coming up on 12 years for me and 3937. Car arrived in October of 2007 with 16,915 miles on it and a ton of different problems. That long list of issues has thankfully been sorted out and now I just drive it and do regular maintenance.

My odometer shows a little over 27,000 miles thanks to a few years of speedometer problems. My own math and fuel tracking has me at closer to 34,000 miles. And by my calculations, I'll have doubled those original 16,915 miles by the time I get through my next tank of gas.

The scary number though is looking at the total cost per mile driven since I got the car, and that's somewhere between $3.50 and $4 per mile, depending on what you include. Not a very economically viable vehicle!

15 years this month. She had 17k miles on her in 2004 and now sits at 47k. Most of those miles were in the first three years - before kids came along. I'm just now getting her put back together after sitting for the better part of the last three years while I was in grad school.

I just got done replacing the front wiring harness after a mouse chewed through my old one, replacing the fuel pump with the DPI integrated unit, filling the license plate mount holes in my fascia and repainting the black, and a new brake master cylinder after my old one leaked and stripped the epoxy off the fuel tank closing plate and part of the frame. There was also my first bit of K-Jet troubleshooting after my primary fuel pressure was low. Nothing a 5mm washer couldn't fix.

I'm hoping now that the kids are older-ish (no car seats) that I can get her out more often.

From negotiation to purchase paperwork signed on September 21st. Ironically the birth date of my D is also September 21st. I didn't find that fact out about that until a year or so later.

23 years this year.

I spent many years using this car as a daily driver. I have had other cars that have left me stranded, multiple times, far from home, whether it was from running out of fuel due to an inop gauge, blowing an engine, or a freeze plug letting go in the middle of town.

I've driven this car through blizzards, floods, rain, shine - you name it.
With the DeLorean it is pretty amazing to still make it home after:
Losing an alternator belt (water pump!) (Coasted down hills w/ engine off to keep the engine cool)
Sheered the shifting linkage pivot bolt (slam shifted as needed)
Harvey ball joint separation (roadside fix - used an allen wrench to hold it together to make it home)
Began overheating due to faulty expansion tank cap (roadside fix)
Fuel pump wiring broke (roadside fix)
Manual Trans spider gear shaft sheered (still drivable, needed transmission overhaul though)

The ONLY time I needed help home was due to a failed fuel pressure regulator (3.0 swap) but it happened 1/2 mile from my house. I now carry a spare and stopped using fuel with ethanol in it.

I can say today, finally, that the car needs absolutely nothing fixed or replaced.

I've been pulled over dozens of times and never had a single ticket count.

I think that is pretty good for a 44 year old car.

I have always been a ?car guy. I loved the looks of the car when it first came out, but couldn?t afford it. The original target price for the Delorean was $12,000.00. It actually came out at twice that amount. The window sticker price for my car was 25,950.00. See the attached copy of the sticker that I received from DMC Houston.
Because of the DMC bankruptcy, by 1984 the price of the cars dropped drastically. I was able to obtain my car for a negotiated price of $13,500.00. It was 3 years old and had 15,110 miles
I loved it and liked driving it. I thought it handled well and was comfortable for a sports car. I know many, if not all, on this forum will disagree with that.
The car did attract a lot of attention because of its stainless-steel body and gullwing doors. However, many people didn?t know who made it or any history about a Delorean. In fact, there was one person who misread the DMC emblem and though it was AMC. Consequently, he thought that it was made by the ?American Motor Corporation? (AMC). Those who did have knowledge of the Delorean told the usual cocaine jokes.
Then in 1985 ?Back to the Future? was released. My wife and I drove my Delorean to see that movie. After it was over and we were getting into the Delorean, we heard people shouting ?Be careful at 88mph? and ?Where is the ?flux capacitor?. Questions we all still receive.
As you all know, there is no longer a problem with people knowing what a Delorean.
I still like driving it. Also, because of the popularity of the car , there a bigger demand for seeing one. I like sharing it, at car shows, parades, and other such events.

Thanks so much for your reply! It's always interesting to me to learn more about people's experiences back when the cars were new, or nearly new. I also really like how the car drives, and agree that they handle well and are comfortable for a sporty 80's car. I've modified the suspension on mine to lower it a little and add stiffer bushings, but it was already nice to begin with.

It's also great that you still get it out to drive and share with people at shows and events. One of the great joys of owning one is experiencing how much other people love to see it.

This year marks the 12th year of owning, fixing and especially DRIVING the DeLorean!

I bought it when I was 23, and I can't tell you how grateful I am to all of you! You have been so supportive to my activity and helped me a lot, and still do. :)

Owning a DeLorean in a little mountain village like the one I live in (Belluno) is a special experience on its own. You are definitely the king of the neighborhood, and you really feel as if you were spreading the DeLorean gospel to an unexpected extent! I see a sports car as a rich man's delight, but the DeLorean is really a democratic car, and it gets sympathy at every level!

With 3305 I've been to Belfast, I've been to Austria, France, England, Southern Italy.... It's really a part of the family by now, and I would say it's a part of me.
