View Full Version : How’d you reroute your vents?

I’m debating between a single din and double din stereo. I really like having a big screen so if I got a single then it would be the one that has the screen, and pop up but I’m wondering if that’ll pretty much block vents anyway. I don’t really want to cut holes in the kneepads to make new vents. Has anybody ever routed the vents just to shoot out under the kneepads? Maybe with some kind of skinny output slot that is not noticeable? And if so, would you even be able to feel them on anyway?

How much work is it to reroute them besides the cutting holes and kneepads part? Thanks

I've thought about this myself. Has anyone used a stereo with a screen that flips down and does it work? I'd rather block the controls than the vents.

Or has anyone swapped the single din slot with the vents?

Yep, and it's a crazy amount of work to watch TV in the car: http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?4477-Swapping-the-stereo-and-airvents-the-other-way-around-(maintaining-stock-operation)

You may want to consider this unit, which has a separate screen that can be mounted anywhere: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_130DMC2550/Pioneer-DMH-C2550NEX.html?tp=5684

At least one other forum member is working on installing this unit now: http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?14837-My-double-din-radio-panel/page2&highlight=Double

If I go the route of taking out the center consul Vance and turning them into kneepad ventsdoes the airbox come out or is the airbox modified in someway to route that air down to the kneepads? Thanks

I don't know if I'd recommend removing the top vents. I talked with someone at DCS who rode in a car that did that and they said it didn't cool evenly/well. Cool legs, hot head!
