Anybody know the diameter and spline count on the steering shaft/U-Joints? Just curious before I climb up under there to measure.

Thanks,

On the old .com forum someone had posted a link to an aftermarket stainless steel setup. I know the post had the specs you're looking for in it. Maybe the original poster is registered here and will pop up.

I have that info....

Company is Borgeson. Call them directly to order these, they do not have them listed online. (860) 482-8283.

U-Joints - Part# 113412 - 9/16-36 spline x 3/4-36 spline stainless (non-polished) u-joint. You'll need two.

Shaft - 12.75" length, 3/4"-36 spline stainless steel shaft

One thing to note about these parts though, they are premade to fit mostly snug completely around on a splined shaft. They to not clamp-on like the original units do. As a result, there is a fine amount of play if the locking bolts/nuts are not tightened down extremely tight. You also must use care to get them lined up to the proper locking channels in the steering rack and steering collumn, otherwise a slide-off could be possible. Loss of steering is probably tied with the scariest thing that could happen while driving. The other being complete loss of braking, but at least with that you have a marginal mechanical backup. Steering your out of luck if you completely loose it.

That said, I've been running these parts for nearly 2 driving seasons now with mostly no issue. I did have to tighten up the locking bolts/nuts 3 times before they stopped loosening up. Had about a month of daily driving between each time.
