I was in the relay compartment installing Dave's electronic RPM relay when I noticed an odd relay tucked behind the wire bundle.

It's a Bosch relay with a push-button taped to the case. Any ideas what this relay and push-button are about?

The wire colors match those for the Hot Start relay. The idea was abandoned by DMC...

That would be where the hot start relay would go. Dave sells them too.

OK,
I found the hot start relay on the wiring schematic:

And it looks like the relay socket is orphaned with no connection on one side of the coil. I'm trying to understand the circuit. Was the intent of the relay to provide a ground to the cold start valve? But I'm not sure why someone would add the push-button switch, presumably momentary normally open, between the blue/black and the coil. At least, that's where it looks to be connected?

If I recall Hervey sold a hot start relay that had the push button so you left it plugged in and simply pressed the button whenever you needed it to work. Silly Dave McKeen and his relay just automatically worked after 5 or 6 seconds of cranking. Dave's relay didn't the added simplicity of reaching over the seat, removing the net, carpet, compartment cover, digging through the wiring to press a button so your car would start.

I stand corrected...still that button looks awfully simple. Pressing it and making my car start makes me feel powerful and smart.

It is a bit easier that doing the plug swap and if it makes it start right up when the motor is hot, it can confirm a problem with rest pressure. On a well running PRV you should never need the hot start relay (or button).

I took one look at the ahem... "engineering" and thought it was a Hervey special.

If I ever have hot start issues, I'll get Dave McKeens unit.

Ya If you order the pushbutton relay from Hervey he will send you the stupid jumper wire. Well that's what he sent me.

I used to have an occasional hot start issue but ever since I got Dave's hot start relay it hasn't been a problem. Back in 2015 DMCH sold me an aftermarket accumulator which was smaller than the original. I read that they don't hold rest pressure for as long as the original ones.

They don't and it pisses me off that they sold an accumulator for a 4cyl saying it would work. I have it in mine and it included a piece of "DMC APPROVED" radiator hose to make up the size difference. The correct accumulators are available from other sources and vendors....but they are not "DMC OFFICIALLY APPROVED SO YOU KNOW IT WILL FIT AND WORK"

I want to replace my shit accumulator from DMC and get the correct one but it's such a PITA to replace I am holding off. Sometimes after about 2 hours or so of sitting my car takes an extra few seconds of cranking to start and I am quite sure this is why.
