Also interested. How do we modify the tail light boards? The modules look easy enough to connect.

Interested too. Assuming the photos are of a complete kit. Many have already upgraded tail lights with LEDs and the compatible flasher. Ideally we could use them by you offering a 2nd kit without these specific items.

I’ll locate the old YouTube video and post the link here. The kit comes with the tail light circuit boards already modified. I have not priced a kit without led lights or flasher but it sounds like a good option. I’ll look into that.

I’m not sure if it would be easier or not. We connect to the fuse box so we can be sure there is no power when the key is turned ‘OFF’. These circuit boards have a small power drain and would run your battery down if they are left ‘ON’ when the key gets turned off. Hope that helps!

It would be pretty easy to purchase some aftermarket Mustang or Cougar taillight sequencer modules and modify your LED taillight circuit boards for these. Would also be a whole lot cheaper. The LED bulbs would still all be 1156 bulbs and your would not have to change out the bulb sockets.

Sorry but the sequencer modules are made to operate specifically with the modified tail light circuit boards that come with the kit. Right now I don’t even have any kits ready to sell. There are two Beta test kits that should be installed in the next week or two. If these installations go smoothly and we don’t run in to any major problems, then I will be ready to start making kits to sell. The sequencer modules are made for and will only work on DeLoreans.

I have currently the updated boards running leds.
I’m only interested in using your system on my Delorean.
Will you offer a kit to possible buyers that have the boards already an option for your modules only and if needed the leds and the information on how to modify existing boards?

At this time we will not be selling any partial kits with modules only. We do not want to create the drawings and written instructions required on how to convert the DeLorean tail light circuit boards to work with our sequencer control modules. Secondly, we are still in the process of Beta testing this system. Even though our sequencer control modules are completely encapsulated in thermally conductive epoxy, we don’t know if they will withstand the heat, vibration, moisture and dirt that will be encountered in actual operating conditions. Also, the modifications to tail light circuit board have to pass these tests too. Third, we are investigating the possibility of designing our our tail light circuit board and incorporating Sally’s the component parts on to the board itself. This would be a lot cheaper and eaisier to build.

Too expensive for me. After seeing the price ($600USD), and international shipping, I can't justify this cost. I'm already running LEDs and PJ Grady Boards which should outlast the car.

You guys are absolutely right! These kits are too expensive and a real pain to build and test. The parts used are expensive and it’s not worth the time or efforts to make them so the Tail Light Sequencer Project is no longer available. It would be better just to make these kits from Mustang sequencer.

When I first saw your photos of your unit I guessed you would need to charge a lot for the units. I think you could produce new circuit boards with electronics on them for a price that should sell enough to recover your R&D costs and maybe make some money.
With a new board you can use ground switching each light which is easy with a micro and MOSFETs. And just get power by using diodes to power the electronics from the existing light wiring. So the boards would be just plug and play with no wiring required.
The problem is the larger boards will probably cost you at least $20 each or more if you order small quantities.
There was another person that produced rear light boards which I saw at one of the DCS shows. His board had all the LEDs soldered to the board and I thought he would need to charge at least $400 for a pair of them. I guess he decided he could not sell enough to recover his costs.

It is a necessary evil
Since the brake lights are bridged together on the board there is no way of individually controlling them
The bulbs are also all single filament in the stock boards. This would require dual filament bulbs behind all the red lenses. At least the center (park) one in the middle.

I'm surprised that all of the new and improved tail light PCBs haven't been made with layouts that would facilitate plug & play sequencers.
Like, integrating the pads for a sequencing connector and creating an easy to sever copper bridge.
"Want to add our sequencer kit? Simply cut these bridge traces with a knife and plug our module into the second, unused edge connector."
Or you build a new PCB with each lamp wired discreetly and featuring a weather resistant terminal.
Then you offer a stock plug & play adapter for a drop-in upgrade
...or a weatherpack cut & crimp terminal to get rid of the card edge connector
...or an add-on adapter for a sequencing module

I too am going to have to bail from this due to cost. I understand that it's expensive for reasons that have already been discussed but I cannot justify the cost when I can allocate those funds to other things on the car like tires when the time comes.

For anyone designing a product, they could use existing wiring to get power. You just use diodes to provide power from any of the existing circuit wires. The draw back to that design is you drop about 0.7 volts for your power. That drop is not important if your just driving a low power circuit like a microprocessor. It becomes important if your going to use a lot of current driving heavy loads with that power.

Hi Dave
Wouldn’t you be only able to use the indicator circuit but as that’s a on/off circuit don’t you need a full time 12v and without running an additional wire there is no full time 12v available in the rear bumper?
Thanks

Your correct. If your using just the blinker then it would require a 12 volt power to get lights working unless your just powering the lights during the stock blink on time.

I would like to make this a product...
Done.
Or at least the development is compete. We’re currently doing our second round of beta testing.
My apologies for jumping on this thread, but I wanted to let those interested in a taillight sequencer know that a product is well on its way. We’ve put a lot of thought and development into the sequencer and believe we have produced a very flexible, yet simple to install solution. The original alpha units were installed on two cars in June. Those units were run for two months and led to our second generation (beta) units. I’ll show photos of the current units below. The current units have been installed on my car for just over a month. A second car is slated to get the units in October. We intend on testing for 6 weeks in the second car as it is a daily driver. Assuming we get good results, and there is at least some interest, it will become available as a product to purchase.
Briefly, here are some details:
• This latest product version is a complete taillight board replacement (there are reasons for this which I’ll follow up on later).
• The product installs in the car just like any other taillight board replacement with no revisions required to the car’s wiring. However, just as required for any conversion to LEDs, an electronic flasher is required.
• The board requires standard 1156 bulbs or LEDs.
• The sequencer is microprocessor controlled and completely configurable.
• The board has an onboard connector that allows software updates.
• An onboard switch allows selection of user preferences and sequence timing.
• There is a “parade” mode available to provide a “special” light sequence. Currently it is a “Knight Rider” back and forth scan of all segments including the backup lights (but we’re open to other options/suggestions).
• The circuitry includes failsafe operation that insures brake light, turn signal, etc. should the processor fail.
• The electronics are rated for high ambient and we’re currently running heat testing on the boards.
Here’s some photos of the board:
61258612596126061261
The sequence we selected differs from the Mustang version where segments remain on as they sequence across. We’ve chosen to take more advantage of the instantaneous nature of LEDs and do a trace across. We’ve built in some ghosting which we feel adds to the aesthetics. The Mustang version is available should that be a preference (but I believe you’ll like our version). I made a video of the sequencer with the emergency flasher engaged. This lets you see both left and right sequencer working. Normal turn signal would have only the appropriate indicator flashing. Here’s the link:

My son and I are both engineers. This has been a fun and rewarding collaboration to this point for both of us. We’re not marketers and we’re not sure how we will make this available should there be interest. Yes

I have a number of Dave's products on my car but not the side markers. I believe Dave's side marker flasher ties into the front turn signal and is not connected at all to the rear taillight wiring harness. If so, our board would have no interaction with, or affect on, his side marker product. Our sequencer is only operating the lights on the taillight board. I want to look into this side marker flasher a bit more. This seems like a very complementary product to go with the taillight sequencer.
Does your setup require s full time 12v feed.
No. Uses the original taillilght connectors. No modification to the wiring harness.

Thanks Ron,
The car requires a board at the front and one at the back for Dave’s mod which I have wired in.
I guess you could get away with one board at the front but you would need to run a feed from the front to the back of the car to the rear side markers.

Of course, I forgot that the rear side markers would conveniently tie into the taillight turn signal circuit. Again, presuming that this connects to the turn signal prior to the taillight board connector, then there would be no interaction with Dave's side marker product. It would get the same signal it always gets from the flasher relay.
However we are experimenting with an adjustable flasher relay that would affect the blinker timing. Our board is slave to the flasher module and we are forced to do our selected sequence within the time frame of the existing flasher. In the video, my car is working with a standard electronic DMC flasher. We received some feedback from DeLorean owners that they would like to see the sequence last longer in duration. We've just started using the adjustable flasher on the test bench. Extending the on-time does enhance the affect. Of course it's all in the eye of the beholder and the flasher is somewhat "inconvenient" to switch out. But we may decide to offer the adjustable flasher with the product. Eventually I'll post some video of the extended flash sequence so you and others can evaluate.

this is exactly what i had imagined when this thread was first posted. A nice drop in taillight board.
If it is priced reasonably you should have no problems selling quite a few sets Ron.

Thanks for the encouragement. Still need to finish up he testing. Then we'll see what avenue to use for distribution. I want these to be affordable. I think the feature simply fits the car. If JD would have seen it, he would have jumped on it.

That's an option. But, as I said, we're not marketers or salespersons. I admire Dave who has managed to do all of that himself. But I would venture it does take him a good bit of time and effort on his part just to take orders and ship product.

I find it funny how people who are not in the position to sell a product say it is so easy.
making a one off modification to your car and making something replicatable and easy to install for members of the community are two very different things.
I have several products relating to LS swaps. The support is the killer. Fabricating the parts is *almost* the easy part.
Nevermind marketing them and managing orders. It is not a single person job, especially when you already have a full time day job.
I have several customers that have been patiently waiting for over a year to get their kits.
So with that said, take your time Ron. Do your thing and dont let anyone push you. Testing is important and that seems to be your concern. Perfect!
It may not be feasible to recreate these things either. But i really hope it is and everything pans out.

I second this^. Take your time and do it right when you're ready.
And remember that lots of people express interest, few actually produce the cash. Don't get me wrong, this is an awesome upgrade and I think people will want it, just don't count on every excited forum post. One thing I've noticed after all these years is that many people just like having the option to buy things, rather than actually buying them.

Points taken... and understood - I was hesitant to announce ahead of beta. But we're in the midst of developing options now and I hope to bring into the discussion various features to get directional feedback. This forum group is quite remarkable in terms of member knowledge and depth of commitment.

I’ve had several people ask me if they can use their LED Tail Light circuit boards with my modules. The answer is no....The reason is that I purchase two new DeLorean tail light circuit boards from DMC Texas and modify them completely to work with my modules. My modified boards use 1157 dual filament LED lights where the regular DeLorean LED tail light circuit boards use 1156 single filament LED lights. Just wanted everyone to know.-DS

I am following up to let everyone know we have finished our testing and our taillight sequencer board is now available. The boards have been operating in two of our test cars for over an year and in several other test cars for shorter time frames. Test cars include both manual and auto transmission, added functions such as backup camera tied to backup light circuit, side markers linked to turn signal, high mount third brake light bar, as well as very factory original. During the course of the testing we made adjustments to the circuitry and the firmware to solve compatibility issues with several owner added features. The boards are now performing well with these various upgrades.
Additional discussion of the boards can be found here:
http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?18385-Drayron-Sequential-Tail-Light-Boards
Just to recap the product: The Tail Light Sequencer is a drop in replacement for the DeLorean tail light board with no modification to the car or wiring required. It adds programmable turn signal and emergency flasher sequencing as well as a special parade mode animation.
The board features enhanced brightness where the three middle red segments of the DeLorean taillight lens are fitted with dual element lighting. This feature allows all three middle elements to work as both running lights and brake lights. The additional segments increase the car’s running visibility at night and enhance the brake lights both day and night. This heightens the car’s presence and increases awareness.
The boards sequencing is user selected via on-board switches. Sweep Mode – single segment sweep across the taillight. Sequence Mode – all segments sequence on across the taillight (often referred to as Mustang mode). Additionally the board can be set to for brake and running lights to operate as factory original, with the addition of turn signal sequencing.
Operational videos and additional technical info can be found at: https://drayron.com/
The kit has everything needed for installation, including the brightest LED bulbs we could find and an adjustable timing flasher.
Kit Contents:
• 2x Drayron Sequencer boards
• 6x 1157 Red LED Bulbs (SuperBrightLEDs 1157-RHP28-T)
• 2x 1156 Amber LED Bulbs (SuperBrightLEDs 1156-AHP28-T)
• 2x 1156 White LED Bulbs (LUYED B01H54SP6O)
• 1x Adjustable Timing Electronic Flasher Relay
Thanks to everyone that supported and encouraged us. Our limited first production run sold out. Our second production run is just being completed and we have kits available. They are being sold thru DeLorean Parts Northwest (but they have not been added to the website yet, so call Toby and he will help you). For now we continue to sell kits thru our DRAYRON.COM website as well. If you have any questions, please feel free to bring them to my attention either here or via PM.

Can you use the three red light without any sequential mode?
I mean just like the original light but all the red light on and more bright for the brakes?
Thanks!

Domi,
Yes. The taillights have dual element 1157 bulbs in the three middle red segments and are set up to operate all three segments as running lights (low intensity) and brake lights (high intensity). Additionally, You can override the turn signal sweep: Put the lights into "learn" mode (see installation manual) with the adjustable flasher set to high flash. After you get out of "learn" mode, the turn signal will operate only the yellow segment (like an original car). However, I would encourage you to try out the default turn signal trace before you disable it. It really makes an already unique car even more distinctive.

Unless Ford modifies them to follow local laws.
Even if the Mustangs in France do have the sequential flashing, it may not be legal to modify your car to do so.
We do have the Mustang in France but the light is different than in the USA, unfortunately...

Oops, I meant a 1N4002 diode like it shows on the print. I also used Panasonic miniature automotive relays but they are kind of expensive. A ny good relay will work as long as it’s a 12 volt relay with at least 2 amp contacts. -DS

Using two relays to run a side marker is pretty terrible circuit design and clunky.
If you are using incandecents having flashing side markers is as easy as wiring the lights in series.
With LEDs its a little more challenging but a member here makes modules to make this possible. They are very affordable.

Yes based on the wiring the side marker light is powered from the running light circuit. Without the running lights on the relay will cycle with the indicator but with no light flash.

During our testing we ran into a common DeLorean Owner alteration to make the side markers flash with the turn signals. This requires no relays.
Here is the standard front turn signal wiring before the alteration:
64467
And here is the wiring modification to make the side markers flash with the turn signal:
64468
I'm not sure of the originator of this, but it is presented on the Danial Stern website:
http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/markerflash/markerflash.html
This modification requires the polarity to reverse thru the side marker bulbs. Previously, LED side marker BA9 bulbs would not work with this modification. However, non-directional (polarity insensitive) LED BA9 bulbs are now available, so this modification can be used with the non-directional LED bulbs.
While this modification works, it is not a best practice design technique. It depends on the side marker bulbs using the turn signal bulbs for grounding. It adds a low residual voltage to the turn signal circuit. We encountered this in our testing and had to adjust our taillight circuitry to ignore the residual.
The flashing side markers are definitely an improved safety feature that enhances turn signal visibility to other drivers. I would strongly recommend using Dave's side-marker flashers should you want this enhancement. Dave has designed his product properly and it works well without interjecting residual voltages in the turn signal circuit. We have had no issues working with his product.
