I recently discovered my seat bottom is broke. The heavy rubber piece that holds tension across the bottom is split down the middle. Does anyone know how to fix this? Is this part even available? I have recovered seats before so I'm not too worried about that part of it. But I have no idea what to do for this. If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this i'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,

One owner close to me reinforced his seat bottom like this:

5578

On the top of the metal pieces, he installed some industrial-strength Velcro, because if you adjust those reinforcements too tight the seat gets uncomfortable. So the Velcro stops the metal pieces from rattling.

My seat bottoms broke, which made sitting in the seats very uncomfortable. I tried the ratchet straps on the seat bottom, like someone had posted on the old dmctalk. It didn't help a whole lot, and I ended up distorting the wire frame a little.I then put some scrap wood and foam padding under them, which helped initially. However, changing the positions of the seats would shift all the stuff underneath. Eventually I got tired of realigning everthing, and took the seats into to a local upholstery shop to get them fixed properly.

How about Rob Grady, anything he can do?

As indicated by another poster, any good upholstery shop should be able to fix this - I've heard them refer to it as "the bladder." It's not a DeLorean-specific part (though, the replacement might not be black rubber.. which could be a good thing for longevity).

Luckily, taking the seats out of a DeLorean is an abnormally trivial job!

He said he would hunt around for a seat bottom or used seat. But he didn't think he had anything useful.

One possible repair is to try sewing the pieces back together with some nylon string but if it split once it will probably split again. You can probably cobble something up with an old truck inner tube.

Does anyone know if the seat bottoms on the driver and passanger side are interchangable?

I've seen this on the internet somewhere.
It is a simple way to do this, very effective.
I kept the picture as an example, might be necessary some day, and it does not seem to be so difficult to do.

Question, I guess normally only the drivers seat has this as it is being sit the most time? 80% of my trips I make without a passenger, so is it reccomended to do both seats at the same time? Doesn't hurt of course.
