View Full Version : Fuel Identifying original fuel injector lines
Can anyone explain what the original lines connected to the fuel distributor look like? In other words, if I were looking to purchase another car, how could I determine whether or not the lines were original? Were they numbered or have a tag attached or anything like that?
Here's what the original lines in and out of the FD look like, at least on our early-VIN car.
Each of the 6 injector lines has its cylinder numbers stamped on the end of the thick protective rubber sleeve. That rubber sleeve might appear to be a fuel line. The fuel lines themselves are stiff black plastic hoses, about 4-5mm dia. underneath that sleeve/hose. Slide the end of the sleeve away from the banjo fitting to see where the banjo fitting connects to the hose/line.
The original non-injector fuel lines in that area are not marked but are constructed like the injector lines are.
One can also refer to Fig. 64-2 in first edition (perhaps also in current edition) of James Espey's book, The Illustrated Buyer's Guide to DeLorean Automobiles.

Here are the original fuel lines. They have an outer rubber layer and an internal plastic line (both are black) with Yellow Zinc banjo fittings::

Here are fuel lines that have been replaced. They should have a braided stainless steel outer sheath, unless it is partially or completely covered up by a decorative (third) colored heat shrink outer layer:

Edit: Rich beat me to the punch. :)
