Is it me or would the Delorean look even better without the black body mouldings/rubstrips ?
Looking at photo of door with molding and gasket material removed (courtesy of Morpheus) ...sure looks clean!

I find removing them makes the car look very plain, and makes the door handle stick out like a sore thumb.

Thanks for your feedback Josh.
I also didn't think it completely through.... what about the fender side marker lights and rear quarter panel marker lights.... we would end up with holes and having to come up with something for there.
If we left the marker lights on and just removed all the other rubber strips it would most likely look stupid : (

The rubstrips also help with potential minor dings from doors in parking lots.
They also hold snow during the winter lol.

I have seen pics with the rub strips removed. It doesn't look bad, but it doesn't look any better either.

Good points Nick & Michael.
Michael do you have any photos you can share of the car with side moldings removed? I'm guessing they left the side markers in place, correct?

They are there to prevent dings and dents...I’d be nervous without them.

I had a pic from the guy who customized a set of rear wheels to fit the front and his strips were removed but I lost them when my hard drive puked.

There was a car not long ago for sale on that Beverley Hills car sale page and it had a number of the rub strips removed. It didn't look right. Just seemed to scream incomplete or missing. Which is probably what most of the car was so I didn't think to unbiasedly about rub strips or not rub strips. I think the dents and dings protection is the biggie. Not just cosmetic but functional too!

Here is a picture from a DeLorean owner in NJ. His car was painted when he purchased it and he decided to strip the paint away. It was painted in black and brown and the rubstrips were never put back on after being painted. He decided to keep the rubstrips off.

Thanks so much for posting the pics.
Damn.... it does look nice and clean without the rubstrips..... and the side marker lights still work with the rubstrips removed off of them.
I was worried they wouldn't mount properly without their rubstrip mouldings..... but apparently not the case at all.
Looks like I have a nice small project to do during this Quarantine time ; )
p/s wondering how the black door handle would look polished or satin steel colored. That would be an additional nice touch to not direct the eye at it with all the rubstrips removed.

Here's a link to a shot of one of Wolfgang's DeLoreans from his Team Deloman venture in Germany - no rub strips:

Also, a link to one of his other cars, again without strips on it:

Correction.
The car was painted black and gold. I wasn't able to edit my previous post.
I agree that the car does look nice without the rubstrips on them.

Thanks Nick
I'm totally sold on removing the rubstrips now.
Looks amazingly clean in those photos.
Just have to be careful to avoid any dings when parking the car....won't have any protection.

Older picture, but mine hasnt had any since I stripped the car. I've thought about getting wings a loft and doing shaved door handles to clean up the look.

As simple as the rubstrips removal is..... it takes a bit of elbow grease to get out the adhesive tape that remains behind. I ended up using a combo of Brake Clean + Goo Gone to get everything off.
Unfortunately you can see where the rubstrips were located on the body.... so the panels will definitely require a slight regrain.
So not for the faint at heart, lol ; )
Thanks for everyone's help + photos posted.

Be careful with Goo Gone. At least one of their products is listed as not safe for stainless steel.

Hey CFI
Never heard about Goo Gone not being good to use on SS...... I just went on their website and according to the label.... it says not to be used on (faux) stainless steel..... fake SS ?

The car just looks weirder without the rub strips. Not a fan but every man/woman to their own i guess.

Now you must practice "social distancing" with the car by parking far away from any other car so you don't get dinged! IMHO I think it accents the belt line of the car and ties in the side marker lights.

Goo Gone Automotive specifically says not to use on stainless steel.
