I'm up in my accumulator hole working and had a question on the auto trans shift cable that runs through there. Specifically, the rubber boot that is on a portion of it.
What's the purpose of this rubber cover? Is it meant to be a boot like on the steering rack? I don't get why it is shaped the way it is with this larger square end that isn't attached to anything.

I've always wondered the same thing. It's like it was designed for another car.

Seems like a good question for Nick Sutton.

It's obviously meant for another application and has no use on the Delorean.

On a front-wheel drive car (Renault) applications, that sealed the hole where the cable goes through the firewall. The linkage could connect right to the transmission as the crossover linkage was not necessary.

This is good stuff. Thanks for the info... and laugh. I had figured it was probably some sort of unused feature kinda like the electrical plugs for heated mirrors we never got.
The funny part is how Houston's page mentions having them remade from the original drawings. What, complete with the features that weren't really needed in the first place?? lol

Been a while since I looked at one but I'm not sure that the repros have that boot in place. I agree, it sure wasn't needed but sometimes it's easier to send off the drawing and take it as-is.
