What I meant was did it outright fail or did a component on it fail, like the check valve.

I posted this discussion on restoration projects. As soon as Stephen came on the thread got locked. Guess your not aloud to give products negative reviews if it hurts a vendors feelings.
List of DMC products that has failed very early on my car....
Steering rack
Brake master
Accumulator
Fuel pump
Brakes
Angle drive
The list goes on.
I am done as a customer.

Wow. Hopefully mine still works when I finish my project. It has a 2013 pump, and it was working fine when parked in 2018.
Did they switch to a lower quality setup sometime after 2013?

Not really sure. But I would say most of the Delorean guys I know personally that have run them have had problems with them . Most guys have switched to a 2000 Chevy Tahoe Bosch unit .

Delphi’s version (FG0089) works great as well. It’s available at both Advance Auto and Autozone. It’s a nice option for those who want to purchase a pump locally, and it makes getting a replacement on the road much easier.

Talking with Stephen W they did switch suppliers due to quality issues.
I bought my pump in 2013 and it failed in 2016. Im sending it back for them to look at.
I have been running the Tahoe pump since it failed in 2016 without issue.

yeah I originally recommended the 2000 tahoe pump (5.3L) over the FG0089 (5.7L), because I need the pressure sensor for my swaps. I retain the LS EVAP system and it is required. It can also easily removable so it gives an option.

I used the Bosch 67317 which did come with pressure sensor. This pump has metal pipes and a metal top if that matters. One bad thing is if you want to use the level sender you have to rotate the bottom of the pump which comes offset to one side. I did run a flow rate check on this pump and it is way more than you need and the current draw is about 6 amps at 75 PSI.

I like the metal top of that pump. I’ll personally go this route if I ever need to replace the pump.

I’m running this Spectra pump from Amazon and have been for about 2 years since my DMCH pump failed. I am using the Hervey fuel level sender with it. It did come with a pressure sensor I needed to plug with a bolt and file tabs off. Was $88 when I bought it, down to $77 today:

After reading this and similar threads one must ask;
Did anyone buy a DMCH pump that didn't fail?

Ok i got enough to worry about let alone the 3 year old DMCH pump.
Should i be concerned that it may go south in traffic (always fun)?
Should i plan on a new pump rather than the stainless fuel lines?
Should i plan on a new pump rather than the dash restoration?
:8ball:

This is off topic but once this craziness is over you should make a road trip to Va Beach. There’s 3 owners down here that get together on a regular basis for food, drives, etc.

I've had mine going on 5, almost 6 years. No issues at all. I've put about 11k miles on my car since I installed the new pump.

Mine's working @ EFI pressure (44psi). Although one hot summer day, the feed hose rather inconveniently blew off of the stock K-jet barb as the included hose is not rated for barbed fittings, even at the reduced pressure.
Made up a set of nylon feed/return lines and expect those to last longer than the pump.

You sir are playing with fire. I would hate to see a stock internal prv go lean under load over 160kpa. If you question it at all in your application it should be gone.

Going on 4 years and 24,000 miles here. Although I keep getting a random fuel vapor smell in the cabin. (Solutions tried so far: replacing the o-ring under the blanking plate, tightening a clamp and replacing the vent lines. All of which seemed to work for a while but then it came back. Research is ongoing...)

Try replacing the fuel cap.

I bought mine five years ago and I can’t fault it. Everything including the sender (and therefore fuel level indications and fuel warning light) work as you’d expect from a modern car.
I did however go through the whole fuel pump electrical circuit before installing it, to see where the electrical losses were happening (bad connections, particularly the washer bottle area ones). I gained around 2V across the pump after cleaning up all the connectors, measured with fuel pump running.
Maybe I just got lucky, but these cars are so old now, my stance on tackling a system, fuel pump or whatever, is just to assume it’s all hanging on for dear life, so strip it all back and test from scratch.

Oh yeah, I did that too a few years back but maybe it's time for a new one.

Well.. at least I do have AFR safety engaged with a pretty tight leash.
Also have an NOS fuel gauge on loan so I can design/program my own take on an off the shelf module.
Maybe I got a Wednesday pump LOL

Hi, guys,
this discussion about a broken houston fuel pump made me think a lot, because i have this system too and i don't know exactly how old it is. so far it worked fine - knock on wood :-)
i make regular trips and we also go on vacation with the delorean. next year we want to go to belfast for our 40th anniversary meeting.
has anyone ever used the replacement pump 107085 REPLACEMENT FUEL PUMP FOR 107000 and the special tool to save this unit. the tool has a deposit of 50 dollars. i would have to buy it additionally.
you will need additional filters and new fuel lines too.
I'm thinking about buying it as a replacement for the road.
alternatively i would choose the deplphi fg0089 and have to buy a new original tank fuel sender or the new electronics from dave to get the gauge working.
if someone has a better and simple idea or alternative please let me know.

Hi. My understanding is that is a good replacement pump for the unit. Very importantly, it has the correct high flow rate. Be sure to get the filter (107643) unless it is included with the pump.
The pliers are meant to be returned to DMC as a borrowing program. That's why there is a core charge. You can ask about a direct purchase, or perhaps purchase a set elsewhere.
What I would do if you are concerned about failure of the module, is, on let's say an annual or biennial basis, remove the module, take the bottom cover off, and check / replace the filter. It is $8. You can also check that the electrical connector is still securely fastened to the pump module and any signs of heating/melting like happens on fuse 7.
In my opinion, the majority of these failure stories are caused by a clogged filter, incorrect application, or some other issue (like our common electrical issues).
Although this is an adapted GM module, the DMC version is a unique application to the DeLorean. The pump flow rates are designed for K-Jet, for example, it is a higher flow rate. If it is clogged or installed in an application that has a lower return rate, the pump fails either mechanically or electrically (fluid dynamics).
Because of the high flow rate, the fact that all pumps need surrounding fuel to cool them, and the characteristic fuel heating problem in our cars, I try to maintain as full of a tank as possible.
I have this module, and the regular inspection of the filter, and tank level monitoring is my maintenance program/fail safe.
I know that this is a hot topic in the community, but these are my thoughts and my experience.

My DMCH pump has never been an issue, but it now seems not to run after sitting dry for 2 years. considering replacing the pump itself inside the module. part 107085. Does anyone know how to disassemble the module to get the actual pump out? any youtube video? I could not find, only videos about replacing the old style with the new style.

I got the pump working. it was just needing Fuel and a good soaking to loosen it up. I ran it out of the tank and in a bucket and got some gunk/debris out as well.
