View Full Version : Suspension Drive Shaft Transmission Parts
Hi, on removing the engine I notice one of my transmission axles has quite a dent in it.
63887
What part is this as the explodaview actually shows a single "inner drive shaft"
63888
The part I am looking for is actually the domed element which fits from the wheel to the engine.

I don't want the shaft but the CV joint is on the end does that come with the domed dented element (I assumed not)

This should work:

$8 !!!!!!!!!!!!!
You sir are a star...….I haven't yet found something which needed replacing for pennies....
Looking closer, that doesn't look like it has the same edge rim as the other one but I am not sure if that matters. But there is a female receiving edge on the explodaview seen on part 2.
I didn't realise they were so flimsy, it may be worth me trying to smooth it out once removed.

One more option to consider -

As long as the CV joint works and doesn't grind on the dented portion of the cap, you would be fine leaving it alone. All it is doing is keeping the grease in. Another option is to take it off and hit it with a hammer to pop some of the dent out.

Are the Porsche axles a drop in replacement for the dmc ones?

Some are, some are not. Read all about it here, post #13:

Be careful with any replacements. I had and axle that was about 3/4" shorter than the DeLorean axle and it made me get towed home.

Good to know! I've owned my DeLorean long enough to have to install my second set of CV boots. I was curious if there was a drop in replacement available, but I'll just go ahead and redo the boots anyway.

Disregard my link above. I thought you were looking for drop in CV joints, not the actual axle shaft.
Thanks chaps, I will have a go bashing it out, not worried about the cosmetics as long as it clears the CV joint and doesn't foul the mating services I am happy. If any doubt I will pick up another.

this one will not fit, do not buy this one. The extra little bumps do not interface with the stub axle.

These are the correct ones.
As for the CVs any 930 style 28 spline will work. I would stay away from the cheap empis tho. They are made with intentionally loose tolerances to promote high angles. In a road going vehicle this leads to excessive wear very quickly.

Many thanks Josh,
I think I used several of your guides getting to the body lift :)
