In the What Have You Done To Your DeLorean Today thread (check +/- : http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?241-What-have-you-done-to-your-DeLorean-today&p=258069&viewfull=1#post258069) there was discussion about fixing the deteriorated foam in the upper interior door panels.

Here is an offsite how-to: https://timemachine16606.tumblr.com/post/164973543326/door-card-restoration

Has anyone done this with a closed cell foam instead of the open cell foam?

Einstein is credited with saying “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.” So is putting the same type foam in the door cards going to result in the foam crumbling over time? One could assume the foams improved since the D's design. None-the-less, might an 8 to 10mm closed cell foam look as nice yet not crumble/break down?

Edit: Closed cell foam may not be the best or only alternative.

Hey Nick - did you ever move forward with trying to replace the door card foam?

One thing I found in that post you referenced is that they preferred to use 8mm thick scrim foam instead of the 10mm foam from DeLoreanGo. I'm finding it impossible to source foam in that thickness, or its 5/16" equivalent. I'm wondering what you ended up doing.

I've procrastinated :) I've not done anything to the door panels. As I recall, when I was looking I didn't sources.

That said, I wonder how foam in the right thickness range that may be found in packaging might work. The car is tucked away for a ling winters' night so I won't be doing much to it.

This is on my winter to do list. The only thing is I will pull the panels and take them to a pro to make it their problem while I sit at home and drink wine.

That's the Chicago way!
