What's the connector with the brown and orange wires hanging by the oil dipstick? (For the aut. transmission, I guess.)

I’m guessing you have an early VIN. The connector with 3 wires originally connected to a noise suppression filter. Many cars still have the noise suppressor ( unconnected in the harness ) I do. the wire harness you have was later changed to eliminate that plug. I don’t have that plug.

Here is the suppressor ( little Black cylindrical thing in the background)

The other connector looks like the one that goes to the reverse light switch if you had a manual transmission.

It’s purple and orange ( just old and dirty). It would have been connected to a Diagnostic plug assembly. I don’t see it in your photo. So someone likely removed it. It was rather useless for the most part. Many of those have been removed. It’s not needed.

You actually have the suppression filter. I see it in the background of your photo. The Red and Black wires zip tied to the harness. The plug is likely tucked inside the vinyl harness cover.

You can connect it if you want but its not necessary.
