It was working fine until I took the top off. I'm guessing it has to do with the rod and hook in the back and where it's placed?

This is probably already covered somewhere. If any had a photo of how it should look before I scew the top back om it would be much appreciated.

Not sure how they are designed but most likely a spring pops it open and the leg has come loose from it's seat...kinda like the throttle spool but much smaller.

That rod is a torsion bar, similar (in spirit) to the door torsion bars. Closing the glovebox lid twists the bar, creating potential energy. If that bar is not installed correctly: no twist, no potential energy, lid won’t spring open and stay up.

I recently just put my glove box together after I got it in pieces. There is a long metal coat hanger like rod with a square circle at one end. That rod slides into the glove lid through a hole. Extends to the right, and that square loop is bent down and sandwiched between the hing and the box lid. So when the box is released it springs up.

As per post #4.
2 photos of where the torsion rod goes.

Left hinge with torsion rod running along the edge of the open lid and retained in the slot in the door at the left hinge:

Right hinge with torsion rod coming in from the left, held under raised center section of the lower hinge:

Thanks all! I just had to put the wire in the position before screwing it down.
