Maybe you should just buy as many $10K Deloreans you see and part them out. I haven't seen any that cheap but if I did I would be there in a minute.

This is not a discussion post. I want to buy one and I don't need your point of view. If you selling pm me otherwise keep reading. As I said there as few of them and I missed 5 of them. 4 of them had rusted frame but it doesn't bother me.

BHCC is your best bet for a non runner, but it won’t happen at that price. They have the market on that type of car and they will likely grab it before you ever get a chance and mark it up. Good luck though. Just gotta keep digging as nobody will just present one to you on a stainless platter.

They get them pretty cheap but if I can get them before the mark up it's the best

Hunt.
Cheap non-runners are out there. But don't expect to find them advertised.

Well, considering that is almost 4 times the OP’s budget, I’m not sure how helpful that will be:)

Stop giving your opinion he already made clear this isnt a discussion thread....:jawdrop:
IMHO you could break a non runner and make more than 10k so I can believe they will be like rocking horse poo.

I need a 10 - 20k car max. Don't joke that's the max I can afford . Why ? To import a car in Australia it become double, so this not interesting to buy a 30k car with repair. However a 10k or 20 almost running (and no rust) will be perfect. You guys are lucky to be around and look for bargain. Unfortunately I'm not

Wow, that changes things a bit. Your first post said 10k but neglected the 20k part. 10k, not gonna happen. 15k yes but you will have to look, but for 20k you should have no problem finding a fixer upper.

Will go 20k if no rust and engine running. 10k most likely for a project with frame replacement

Sorry Frenchyozi, good luck with it.

Hit me up with those 10k DeLoreans too.
You skeptic. Of the 8 DeLoreans I purchased, only one was over $10,000. The most recent, in 2016, was $7501. All were fixed up, detailed, and sold for a profit. They are (or were) out there.

Yes that's right. Bit sarcastic guys here but again please understand I have a massive headache to import the car and it cost me double of price [emoji28]. That's why 10k is perfect car ... End up here at 20k and I just looked at it. Also I need to replace tyres, give a wash of her life inside outside underneath , bug spray, asbestos check and remove it if needed ($$$$), air con gas out, not more than 10l of fuel .... Huge headache. If I get a 20k running one no rust it becomes a 40k car just to look at it. I missed plenty of bargain as I'm overseas, can't really fly when I want to as I work 7 days a week to get that car. As some peoples said they are some bargain , I saw some cars going even free, 1k , 3k , 5k , 8,10 , 15 ... All of them get flipped 2 to 3 times and I'm just depressing. Some of these cars end up at one well known seller. If you have a car even not running please contact me. Since I watched that movie when I was young , it's just become an obsession and for me its one of a life time purchase that I can't screw up. I learnd mechanic, panel beater (fist year) and detailing. Pretty confident just don't want too much rust as its massive job [emoji847]

The Denver ad looks like a scam simply because you do not buy a car like that for 10k, you just don't. You need to be very careful because there are some very elaborate scammers out there. I just heard an episode of DeLorean talk where a guy talked about getting scammed by one of these professional scammers and he wasn't an idiot. These people (country or origin banned from being discussed here in Talk) set up bogus car websites with convincing inventory and addresses. They look legit even to a guy with common sense.
BHCC is your best bet as they may have cars in your range from time to time AND they are not scammers. They have experience is overseas shipping too. They also employ questionable sales tactics but they are never "dishonest" about their cars, they just don't volunteer much info either.

If you are looking for a way to keep the tax low, maybe buy a car and take it all apart. Importing it in pieces might make it a lot cheaper but you or someone else would have to be in the US to take it apart and it might make the shipping more expensive.

I almost got scammed 3 times before i got mine off a forum member here. After i got the car, the seller using the money i gave him for the car actually got scammed buying another car. unless you can go see or have someone see the car in person, and its too good to be true? assume a scam.

There as a way to do it with 2 cars .but it will cost me heaps to dismantle in USA anyway

Paid 10k for mine a year ago. It was rough, but exactly a year later I got it tagged street legal. They are out there. Pull the trigger when it shows up and it will happen for you. Picture of when I found it sitting at a mechanics shop and a year later. Still in rough shape, took me a year to sort out everything you cant see. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20201025/61242fd5dc2a15332ab182e0a14a031e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20201025/53cba347318446e0890bbfcbaba9468f.jpg

To be honest, I don't blame them. There are so many scams out there that if someone told me they were on the other side of the world and would wire me the money, I'd immediately pull the plug on the deal. Simply not worth the risk and not worth my time. It's a bummer but this is always going to work against you.
I imagine you're not going to find many private sellers willing to go through this, especially on a car that people are lining up to buy locally in cash. I know I wouldn't. Your best bet is certainly going to be a dealer that is willing to take a risk like this. I know it's been said before but BHCC is your best bet.

There are agents you can hire that would do the deal for you, arrange shipping and handle all of the paperwork. They handle the money, fill out the forms for customs, etc. All for a fee of course.

Sorry to ask this question, but I don't understand how the scam works. If a distant buyer says he's going to wire the money, and does so, then you deliver the car. If he doesn't wire the money in a day or so, you simply don't deliver the car, and sell it to the next local bidder in line. Or am I missing something ???

Generally wire transfers are safe but there is just an associated stigma when dealing with out of country buyers due to the large number of scams and thier intricate nature. Couple that with the fact most people have never sold a car to an overseas buyer and the perceived hurdles and hassles of transporting or even prepping the car for transport vs. the security of selling to someone locally or even out of state makes the choice easy even if it means less money.

Even if there wasn't a scam in play, sellers might not want to bother with the extra steps of an overseas transaction. To Nick's point; if people are lined up [with cash] locally, why deal with a transaction that has more moving parts?

I had to pay cash 14 years ago. That was when counterfeit bank checks were showing up. I would only accept cash from an unknown buyer.
Beside that, the seller may need a cash deal to prevent any gain taxes.

Wire transactions are very safe. No seller should accept personal checks EVER! Bank checks are a real problem, it is difficult to tell if it is counterfeit. Best way to handle them is to take it to the bank that issued it and ask for cash. If that is not possible or convenient, cash is always good but it too can be counterfeit. That's why a wire transfer is the safest method. They are not without cost to the seller AND the buyer and can't be done on holidays or weekends or nights. Using an agent to act as escrow is also safe but everyone is right, why would a seller want a complicated deal when he can do a simple quick deal? Often the first person to show up with cash and a trailer gets the deal.

I used to sell restored classics all the time overseas, many a year. Only took wire and handled the prep and transport to the port myself for a small fee. Overseas buyers were never a pain in the ass like locals, always willing to pay up - no kicking tires fighting for every penny they could save, always polite. I was always told it was so much cheaper to buy from the US and ship than find a classic in Belgium for example where it might cost many times more. Anyway, that was years ago and never had a single complaint or negative experience other than a dead battery upon arrival at the port to get the car off the trailer. As time went on it seems like more rules, more regulations and more fees which made overseas buyers less willing to spend the money. More of a chore with paperwork, prep work, etc. In my opinion with all the changes over the years, it is now easier to just deal with the tire kickers than everything else with an overseas purchase. If you're worried about being paid in counterfeit cash, get the marker.
