Tall drivers?

Any tall drivers in this forum? I'm in the market for a DMC-12. never sat in one. I'm 6'0", 215 lbs, and I'm a little concerned about headroom. I've seen a few DeLoreans for sale in online auctions, but I'd like sit on one before moving on. Any DeLorean owners in the Boston area?

You are fine. I am a tall, fat kid at 6' 1" and 330lbs but I fit in the car fine. You have nothing to worry about

DeLorean himself was 6’4”. He made sure he would fit in the car.

I'm 6'2 and 240 lbs. I fit perfectly fine with no issues. As somebody else also mentioned, John DeLorean himself was also very tall, that's also why there's an indentation in the doors so there's more headroom

Definitely find one to sit in first. Everyone's shape and size differs. And our height isn't 50/50, upper body/lower body.

I’m 6’3” and all of my height is in my torso (my pants inseam length is only 32”), so you’ll fit just fine. If you have big feet you may have an issue with the pedal spacing on the manual transmission cars, though. If you wear bigger than an 11 you may have to find a pair of shoes with very thin soles, or drive the car barefoot.

Definitely try to sit in one. Not only must you fit, you need to be limber enough to get in and out. The car is very low to the ground. If you aren't very flexible anymore, you will have trouble getting in and especially getting out. Resist the temptation to pull yourself out by steering wheel, it just moves and will not support your weight. It is adjustable so when you sit in the car make sure it is all the way up and all the way in, that is where most drivers tend to put it. Not all owners know it is adjustable and sometimes you will find it in an awkward position. There is a knob underneath on the right side of the column. Loosen it and you should be able to adjust it. If it hasn't been moved in a long time it may require some effort to get it to move at first. If you have really long legs you may have to modify the seat tracks to set the seat back a little further. The seat back is also adjustable by the large knob on the left side. The seat slides back-and-forth by unlocking it, you would probably need it all the way back. You can also tilt the seat a little bit by adding spacers under the 2 front seat studs. Set the seat up so you can comfortably depress the clutch (in a 5-speed) all the way down without having to stretch.

There is a knob underneath on the right side of the column. Loosen it and you should be able to adjust it. Be sure to loosen it first.


If it hasn't been moved in a long time it may require some effort to get it to move at first. It may be tight.

i'm 6' 5" - Yeah, you need to recline all the way back but it's actually a really good driving position. better for a tall driver than a lot of modern cars.

Absolutely need to sit in one yes, and preferably drive one too. I had a headache from driving it on long distance because I was lowering my head (perhaps unconsciously) because of the limited headroom. The best move I made to fix that was to remove the seat rails on the drivers side and to arrange custom fix rail that sit lower. Now this seat is perfectly positioned for me, and no more headache.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I will definitely find a way to sit on a DeLorean, and hopefully drive one before the purchase. Not too many DeLoreans available on the market right now, and the few that are for sale are way out of my budget. The search continues.

Hey Tom if I can chime in as well I am 6'4 and though it's been quite awhile since I've sat in one I remember it being sort of tight, it was at DMC of California back when it was located in Garden Grove I mentioned this to the guy there and he had me sit in another one which felt perfect! He said that the owner was tall like myself and had the same issue so they made an adjustment to the seat so it could go back a little further so worst case adjustments can be made!

6'3" here. You need the seat all the way back, and reclined all the way back.
I've been thinking about how a collision would start to propel my body forward, then my head head will hit the roof and snap my neck. Too bad airbags never made it to production...

Thanks to a local DeLorean owner, I was able to sit on a DeLorean, and drive it down the street a few days ago. I was very surprised how much cabin room it has. I was able to sit on the driver seat with issues. I'm definitely on the hunt for a DeLorean. If any of you know of a car for sale, please let me know. My budget is mid 30s.
