I just put found an old clutch master cylinder and used the rebuild kit i have.. it fits great but no matter how much i bleed it the pedal is still soft.. is it time to do the slave also/??? thanks...i can actually physically see the piston pushing the clutch fork but its not enough...
Are you bleeding from the slave?

Assuming you have the new stainless clad clutch line...
And your are sure you don't have a leak...
What fluid are you using? Did it come from an old bottle or is it relatively fresh? If it has absorbed water it will compress and you will lose effect at the slave.
Have an assistant push the pedal to the floor and keep it there for several minutes while you watch the slave, does is slowly leak down? If so you need to rebuild master (again) or slave.
Pump the pedal 50 times, did the level in the reservoir go down? You have a hidden leak (near the slave?)
Would like to add something here, before someone say water can not compress:
Water, in fact can not compress but, water vapor will!

I have the braided line... the slave is about six or seven years old now.. i have pumped it probably 100 times and bled it at both the master and slave.. it is still soft... and the fluid is brand new dot four fluid...dave

Why did you replace the master in the first place, i.e. what was the problem?
Do you have an adjustable link on the master?

That didnt fix the problem.. the pedal was soft again today.. everytime i open the bleeder on the slave i can see bubbles coming out.. the only thing i can think of is that the slave is leaking down back into the line???

I had a phantom air problem a few years ago. Take a look at the rubber hose between the clutch fluid reservoir and the master cylinder. Mine was weeping fluid.
You should not have to bleed the system that much, can you explain the whole procedure? You might be doing something wrong.

the hose is a heavy duty one from grady and does not leak...everytime i open the bleeder screw on the slave it just has air bubbles .. that is why i think it is air sucking back in slowly there or somthing.. is is possible that the bleeder screw can leak?? i still think its the slave so i ordered a rebuild kit for it...Dave.

I bled it by opening the bleeder and putting a hose on it in a container of fresh fluid so it sucks that in when i push the pedal up and down.. the pedal will stay firm after that for a few then go back to being soft again...dave.
I don't trust a hose for bleeding, I know is the only way to keep things clean but if you use a hose, air may leak inside thru the bleeder threads.
If your bleeder is not tight, that might be your problem.

Do you have an assistant when doing this?
The best way to do it is:
Have your assistant to push the pedal several times, then ask him to keep pushing hard, while he is pushing, open the bleeder and close while fluid still coming out.
Repeat this about five times and you should be set.
It is safe to use the hose while bleeding this way.

Note:
Bleeder should always be closed before releasing the pedal!=====

I did not but just push and hold the pedal to the floor with a prop.. i did that many time and cracked the bleeder then switched to the other way... does anyone know what size the bleeder screws are?? i could try another one from an auto parts store...it is kind of a loose fit in there when it is open...ibecause there is no fluid leaking anywhere!! lol
Just find a helper, even a little kid could help if he understand commands.
No way to do it right using props!

I just tried using a helper and still soft pedal.. it pushes fluid out fine thru the bleeder.. i just think the slave needs a new seal... or bleeder screw.....

To see the leak, leave the screw tight and watch while someone pumps the clutch pedal - the screw may not leak much or at all when the pedal is not depressed.

I had someone push the pedal up and down a bunch of times and i dont see anything leaking at the bleeder screw.... sigh..
Then just wait a little, I send you instructions tomorrow, step by step. It is hard for me to use this @#$&%#@ phone!

Honestly I'd say DMCXX or Hervey. Its 7mm IIRC - I searched all over town to get one - finally found a shop that got me two with slightly different specs - neither sealed right as the sealing shoulder at the bottom wasn't the right pitch.
If its not leaking at the screw, keep the one you have... That's not the issue. If it holds the oil in at XX psi, then its not letting air back in.
