So I've gone through the trouble of installing an original angle drive on the car. Instructions says to torque tighten the adaptor nut. How do I torque tighten the adaptor nut with the angle drive sticking out of it and with the spring in the way?

Very large open end wrench.

Like he said, jumbo wrench on the back nut. 1 1/4" I think it is. That being said, you can get the back nut good and tight and then finish your torqueing on the front side. When you get on the front nut with a socket and large torque wrench, you will pull the assembly together to get it sufficiently tight. You don't need to get that large torque value solely on the back nut using just the open ended wrench.
Do you have a copy of the DMCH angle drive replacement instructions? They made a really good one with pictures and steps and torque values and whatnot.

So basically I can just tighten the angle drive adaptor nut on the back somewhat and do the 165 lb/feet torque on the outer axle nut?
The nuts are independent of one another. If the rear nut is not tight the taper does not properly engage. Since you cannot get a torque wrench on it, I tighten the crap out of the rear nut with a wrench FIRST. Then tighten the outer hub nut. If the Outer nut is tightened before the rear the spindle will not seat and disaster can occur. i will back off the outer nut before tightening the rear nut, if he hub is still installed.
Also note, these nuts are stover nuts (excluding the angle drive nut) and should be replaced after 3(ish) on-off cycles. I beleive the rear nuts came with red loctite from the factory. There is zero reason to remove the rear nut on the passenger side.
