IIRC, the first 50 or so cars weren’t meant to be sold. Instead they were used for crash testing, emissions certification, etc, then used for spare parts. It’s possible the original hood was swapped at the factory or by a previous owner. Some people do not like the gas flap.

I didn't watch the full 22 minutes, so maybe this is covered in the video, but did the owner give the mechanic permission to give people joyrides in the car? If I brought my car to a mechanic and then he started offering rides without permission I'd be upset.

Yes, and apparently some early owners of the 63 split window Corvette didn't like it and had the separation cut out and modified to a one piece window.

My dad owned and operated at speed shop back in the 70's. He said he had multiple people come in over the years with '63 split window Corvettes and ask him to cut out the split and install a '64 rear window. I guess back then lots of folks saw it as a nuisance rather than a commodity. To be honest I don't blame them for feeling that way at the time. The one opportunity I've had to sit in a split window I took note to look in the rearview mirror and turn around; the visibility is pretty terrible (and that's coming from a DeLorean owner!)

I think everyone is missing the point, that woman was so giddy and happy over having a ride in the car! That is what it is ALL about! For us nerds, the fact that is it a very early car misses the point. It does make it more interesting but the whole experience is about the car. I, for one, would appreciate more of the "backstory" on the car, how it was acquired and why it sat for so long and why, now, it is being revived. And what, if anything, can be done to Title and register the car. Even if you aren't going to drive the car, many insurance companies won't insure a car unless it is at least Titled so you can prove ownership.

Correct. This happened to a friend of mine. He found out his mechanic was letting people sit in, and crawl around in his car without his permission via Facebook photos he happened to see and wasn't pleased. This is a guy that will let anyone in his car who asks, he is very open about sharing his car, but permission is a big part of that equation. Don't want to roast this YouTube guy without the full info, he very well may have had permission.

Good point. Not only should the shop had the owner's permission, they were putting additional mileage onto a very low mileage car. Of course the shop could say they had to test the car anyway and took her along for a short ride. With no plates and maybe no insurance the shop was taking a big risk driving it on public roads.

All DeLoreans came with a 85mph speedometer, with the exception of the 88 Canadian spec models (240km/h)

There are some replacement speedometers and guage faces but they are not what was installed from the factory.
