I would like to make a family trip out of the "unavailing".
I would like to make a family trip out of the "unavailing".
The annual Pebble Beach Concours (http://www.pebblebeachconcours.net) is a bucket list event for any auto enthusiast. This year it's scheduled for Sunday, August 21.
Use this link (https://pebblebeachconcours.net/plan-your-visit/faqs/) to plan your day there. Consider taking in some of the other Monterey Car Week events (https://pebblebeachconcours.net/event-calendar/) to make the most of the trip.
According to the news (https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a39194213/delorean-electric-vehicle-new/) DeLorean Motors Reimagined's car will be with other concept cars on the Concept Lawn, a prestigious location adjacent to the concours field. Here are the concept cars shown on the Concept Lawn last year (https://www.bmwblog.com/2021/08/16/2021-pebble-beach-the-concept-lawn-shines-once-again/). Scroll through the photo gallery at the end of that link to see more than just 4 of the concepts there.
Access to the Concept Lawn is included with general admission to the concours. Those cars are roped off, unlike the ones on the concours field, so don't expect to be next to any of them unless you know somebody on the far side of the rope line.
The unveiling? The concept cars aren't usually unveiled during that event. They're already in position, uncovered, before the gates open. Some of them may be unveiled in advance at a related private event offsite.
General Adm. tix cost $425 in advance. Admission includes offsite parking, shuttle service and a program. It's a family trip? Kids under 12 are free.
Finding accommodations in and around Monterey that week is a challenge so consider booking well in advance.

Great info, thanks.
And yes, I meant "unveiling"😂

Wish I could be there! I was fortunate to be able to stop by Pebble Beach with my wife during a vacation in California several years ago. It was a beautiful spot. Looking forward to pictures of the concept.

Basically the unveiling of the Ital Design Davinci - again.

I wonder how this car is going to fit into their business plan, now that the "low volume motor vehicle manufacturing act" has finally passed. I mean, Houston can just start building the actual car with the NOS parts right now. Are they still planning on doing that?

I don't really think its practical for them. There's just too many parts that are now unavailable. Some, like the front fender and the left taillight (among others) are critical and despite long standing indications that these would be reproduced, they remain unavailable. They likely got a good deal selling the DeLorean name (and perhaps some percentage of future sales as well) and the company producing the car gets to take advantage of the DeLorean notoriety. We don't know the terms of the deal but the company producing the car would Undoubtedly want an non-compete agreement to not produce NOS DeLoreans.

Good news is DPI is in the process of getting left taillights reproduced. Its a start.

I don't think they are genuinely out of LFFs or rear taillights. As a reply noted on the latter, at least one effort is underway to make some more; and as such, an awful lot have appeared for sale in the last few weeks. I'm sure DMCH have plenty stashed away.
As for the LFFs, others have noted plenty in evidence during the factory tour videos. I'm sure DMCH have well planned for this, and are quite capable of making at least a small number of cars.
However, if you've been looking for parts in the DMCH store recently, you'll notice an awful lot of more "regular" items are OOS. Whether this is entirely or partly due to supply chain issues, that's a matter of speculation, and how much it impacts
their ability to assemble a car is not for me to say.
What's perhaps more surprising, is that nothing has been mentioned now that act has passed - since this was such a big deal for such a very long time.

I could be off base... but I get the impression that the vehicle being unveiled at Pebble Beach (which has zero to do with the original cars) killed the plan to build new "classic" DeLoreans. The new DMC-Texas website has stripped all mentions of the reproduction cars and only has info on history of the original company, history of the DMC-Texas company, and info on sales/service/restoration/parts.
Seen in today's The Manifold column by Hagerty as well as on some other sites:
Link: ItalDesign Delorean flashes rear end, and it ain't your father's time machine (http://www.hagerty.com/media/news/the-manifold/2022-04-05)
It's only one teaser photo of the left rear of the concept car plus a schedule update.
The car will be unveiled 3 days earlier than previously announced, now on Aug. 18, presumably somewhere in the Pebble Beach or Monterey area. It's still due to be on the Concepts Lawn at the PB Concours on Aug. 21.

Thank goodness its not that DaVinci model with a slap on Delorean badge. I was getting disappointed there for awhile.

Now, to try avoid seeing any pics of the car before I get to Pebble Beach.

Maybe it is the DaVinci with a slightly different rear end. How many brand new gull wing door cars is ItalDesign introducing right now?

So now the "new delorean" is not just one car but a family of cars? A bunch of articles below. Most just reference the first link where CEO Joost de Vries talks about it on a podcast. I guess multiple models will be revealed at pebble beach too. I wish them all the luck, but given the past history of "new" DeLoreans - I will believe it when the first customer drives one home.

I think it’s a mistake to launch a “family of cars”. I also think it’s a mistake to do away with stainless skin. But I guess it’s good for us owners. I think it will drive up values. The only problem with that is I probably won’t benefit. (My heirs will)

JZD himself wanted to do other cars and vehicles too. The sedan (4 seater), DMC 80 bus. He did manage to do LMC snow cats and groomers. And dmc airline luggage tow
Tractors. I can’t say I am not surprised they are talking up a big game. So far all we have is a render. August is approaching. Quickly.

It's basically going to be a commercial for the brand. The DeLorean name will simply be the means to an end. It's like the girl you took to homecoming prom. You didn't want to marry her, but you did use to her to promote your own awesomeness.

Well said. No way I would marry the girl I took to high school events.
Per this story today (https://www.autoblog.com/2022/05/09/delorean-devolved-teaser/?ncid=txtlnkusaolp00000618) the DeLorean EV will be revealed in 3 weeks.
There's a full-width shot of the rear end, highly touched-up, at the delorean.com (https://delorean.com/) website now, including a countdown clock for the reveal.
Their splash page highlights a signup for "online advance access" that will post 24hrs in advance of the reveal event wherever it happens IRL.
Presumably they will also give it a real model name beyond DeLorean EVolved or whatever they've been calling it in the concept phase. The story includes a quote from James Espey at DMCH confirming the (limited) relationship between the "new" and the "classic" DMC entities.
No mention of what will or will not also happen at Pebble Beach in Aug. There's a hint that what they show between now and then may include more than one iteration of the car(s) they will offer.

Well , if you have early access, the new Delorean is out! Check the website tnite.
Won't post pics here to spoil it, but personally I think this is a great start. I would have preferred more of the concept look right out of the gate as those drawings/renders are amazing, but maybe there will be more racier trims down the line. Congrats to all those involved with this project, wish them the best.
Will be exciting!!
Proud day to especially be an original Delorean owner.
