LCA boxing with reinforcement brackets?

If I’m installing DPIs LCA braces is the old suggestion of box welding the LCAs still applicable? Seems like the braces would do more than boxing ever would. But I’ve got my LCAs off for sandblasting and powder coating so now would be the time to do it if there’s still a benefit.

Anything you can do to strengthen the weak factory stamped arms is a plus. Not required but definitely a plus. There is a precut sheet available from the UK. We do not currently offer anything to support modifying the stock arms others than bolt on supports.

Thanks Josh, makes sense. I did come across the plates offered at DeloreanGo a while back so not having to fabricate my own makes this a lot easier. The shop I'm having handle the blasting and powder coating also does metal fabrication so welding them on should be no big deal for them.

I think you are best off just replacing the LCAs with better ones like what Josh sells or the other vendors. Some failures occur at the ball joint area, where the reinforcement plates won’t help. Here are some photos I saved over the years that others have shared.

Last year I refurbished my LCAs. I used D GOs boxing plates and ball joint collars. I was aware of the ball joint area fracture problem so I made my own reinforcement plates out of 1/8 inch steel. I'm also using D GOs braces.
By the way it helps heating up the ball joint collars to get them on.

This is a unfinished extra one.
I have no usable pictures of them in place. They are welded on the inside and with the boxing plate and powder coat you can't see them. The fabrication and powder coat was done at the same time so no intermediate pictures.
This is just to reinforce the walls but there are some people that put a little piece that's bent and welded around the ball joint end. I didn't think it was necessary to go that far. But to each there own.
I made sure that the fitting was done after putting in the reinforcement collar.

Upgraded mine to billet ones with DGo braces last week.
