I, for one, find it completely implausible that James would give bad information on the cost of a roof box replacement. James is a man who has never misrepresented the cost of anything, the work performed by DMCH, or the quality of their new cars.

I think Mike at DMCMW posted some pictures of a roof box replacement on Facebook a while back. The labor for the job was like two full days for two techs working on it. It doesn't sound like a fun job but it sounds doable given enough instructions and talking to other people who have done it. Messy and I wouldn't be looking forward to re-aligning the doors at the end.

Two days x 2 techs...that's over $2,500 bucks a day each tech bills out. Let's say the franchise doesn't pay flat rate and takes a flat 50%...that's still well over $1k a day. No matter how you cut it, someone/everyone is making bank on a roof box job.

Just think a few years ago when the $25k rule was the deal. 50% of the car's value depended upon the little area between the doors. A non runner with a bad roof box would be totaled?

By this premise; if your car has a bad roof box, it would be beneficial to claim in every accident that damage was sustained that bent/damaged a door and necessitates a roof box replacement to either get the job done via insurance or to ease in payout of a "totaled" claim.

Tap to the front fender? Damaged striker kinked the roof box! Rear-ended? Panel pushed into door and detached the roof box!

I missing something here. $2500 divided by 8 hours is $312 per hour. Are you saying a dealer charges this per tech? Or are you saying $156 per tech/hour. That sounds more realistic, but I’m behind the times because the only work I’ve ever had a dealer do was warranty.
