My car would sometimes make this clicking / creaking noise prior to the suspension overhaul DeLorean Industries performed on my car. After the suspension work, it became much more frequent – near constant. I somewhat wish I had gone with rubber bushings, but I go back and forth. If I shut off my ears – I’m in suspension heaven with the poly.
You can feel this creak happening at the point on the rear fiberglass “firewall” pictured in the above thread, but I no longer suspect it is originating there.
My most recent experiment at isolating the sound was this:
• Loosened passenger crossbrace body bolt.
• Jacked up the car from the rear passender jack point to seperate the body and frame by 1-2mm.
• Cleaned between the fiberglass and frame as best as possible.
• Inserted some rubber-cork gasket material between the body and frame.
• Lowered car
• re-torque body bolt.
With only one test drive, the sound did not occur once. I did part of this experiment before – without the gasket material. It quieted the noise temporarily.
I don’t like having the softer material between the body and frame, it was just an experiment pinpoint the source of the noise. You can see one piece of the gasket material peeking out in this picture.

You can also see how the fiberglass in this area looks to have been ground down, or resurfaced, near the flat part of the cross brace. Has anyone seen this before?
I am contemplating a harder rubber material to act as a dampener at this mounting point on both sides. But even that it not as a positve a mount as the direct fiberglass-to-epoxied-steel it should be. This would affect torque readings on the body bolts, and perhaps they could loosen over time with the softer material flexing.
I could also use a more sticky grease between metal and fiberglass and see if that quiets things.
Has anyone experienced this at this location or any other body mount locations? Any ideas?
