VOD Rebuild = No start

Finally got the everything back together. New starter, water pump, alternator, hoses, and belts. It will crank and on occasion it will every so lightly putter but no start. Everything has been reconnected except this piece, I don?t remember where this goes. Im assuming it is only grounded considering there is no connection. Y?all have any ideas on common mistakes? Thanks in advance for the help. Eager to get back on the road!

That is the capacitor for advance solenoid. Yes it goes to ground. After pulling the injector lines it will take a lot of cranking to get it started. I guess you can jumper the fuel pump and push down on the air plate to prime those lines.

Did you replace the O-ring under the fuel distributor? If so, you need to re-adjust the CO screw. The o-ring will change the vertical relationship between the rest position of the air plate and the position of the metering pin.

Also, it's possible you did not hook up the throttle correctly and it is too far open.

I did not replace the o-ring. I didn?t move the throttle too much. It seemed to piece together well.

If it worked OK before you touched it then anything you touched is now suspect. Go over all of your work and see if there is anything you overlooked, misplaced, forgot, etc. If you don't find anything the next step is to start from the beginning and check for fuel and spark.

That's the plan. Just wanted to see if there was anything that raised any red flags or commonly misplaced connections. It will try to start with a little carb cleaner. I cracked the banjo bolts on the fuel distributor and they are pressurized with gas. :mallet:

No need to crack anything to check for presence of fuel pressure. Just touch the air meter plate. If it has resistance, there's fuel.

The lines might still have air in them...If some have/had air, the other cylinders may be fuel fouled by now.

Try shooting some starting fluid under the plate...
If no luck, check for spark as David suggested.

Sorry for all the posts/questions! I promise I try to search!

I finally got it to start. I had messed up the order on the spark plugs. Now the car will start, idle for about 10 seconds, and die. I confirmed the fuel lines are correct and the metering plate has pressure. Everything was working correctly before I tore it down, to replace the water pump and VOD. As always, I greatly appreciate any help!

I have such story , maybe it have some hint for you .
Once I was dissasamble the Air Mixture for cleaning , I literly dissamble into the every single piece of components . then I vapor blasted , porting the Air Mixture inside casting mark, wildend the intake . after all the work , I put it back and the car wont start. as it will stall after 1 secound of running .

the result was been the hight of the Air mixture bun need to be adjust few turn , because the new Oring sandwich between fuel distubutor and the AirMixture also the pressure plate was moved abit with less tight play in the Air mixture unit , the result is a very off chart A/F that result car will not countiune to run correctly .

Assume the Eletrical are all correct and the Vaccume are correct. then it might just be the AF is off the scale
