View Full Version : Transmission Auto Check your Microswitches (Auto Trans)

Ok Folks,

I was seeing a bunch of weird behavior. The Car was really sluggish, It was taking longer to start cold, and from a stop it was upshifting really rapidly (not holding gear at all). Also, if I went WOT - it wouldn't kick down a gear. As it turned out the two microswitches on my throttle spool were stuck - The bottom one was stuck closed (on all the time) and that is supposed to enrich the engine at WOT. The upper one is for kickdown a gear at WOT. Talking to Toby I hit them both with some WD40 and moved them back and forth with a micro screwdriver and they came back to life. Everything is back to normal and the car is so much better.

If you aren't inspecting these be sure to do so.

I disconnected my WOT this summer. When it's connected the engine is running too rich, the dwell reads high. Disconnected and all is better. I need to try your fix. Thanks!

You can also very gently use a drill bit by hand to clear out debris, and make the hole just a tiny bit larger.

Hole in the microswitch? Not sure what you mean - i was just freeing up the little plunger gently and it came back to life.

The rubber dust shield/boot must be missing...
