Lower quad spring question---

The new spring is reversed exaxtly from what is in there now. I cant work out how its supposed to go. Am i supposed to bend that 90 degree part of spring out? can anyone show me a pic of what its supposed to look like? Or does the original one look right?
Also,
All the red around the gaskets look like a sealer? should i use a sealer on new gaskets for this?

like this? It works, i just cant get spring to twist around for more tension. shouldt it pull the plates completely closed and have tension on them?

That spring isn't supposed to go there it's made for the throttle spool. There's the big one on the top and that one on the bottom they work in conjunction with each other.
The gasket is supposed to be dry but a very thin layer of gasket sealer on them probably wouldn't hurt.

thanks, i figured out what i did.. I reinstalled everything back to the way it was and adjusted the linkage. I think that was most of my problem. The plates were not closing all the way when idling. Its much better now...

Another trick for properly setting the throttle spool is the throttle spool should NOT be resting on the throttle stop when your foot is off the gas. It should be at LEAST , like, 3/16" off the stop. That will add more tension and keep the throttle cable from getting slack. It can also prevent a slowly creeping-up idle speed as the engine warms.

Set the throttle tab-to-stop distance first, then set the rod length so that the length is minimized the throttle spool is at rest and the throttle butterfly is at rest (May need to remove the W-pipe to confirm the butterfly really is closed).

See the picture to get an idea of what I mean for the stop distance.

Mine isnt even close to the stop, maybe too far. I have parts ive ordered over the last 6 months that i have not got around to replacing. Ive forgotten about some of it. Im going to replace that lower spool spring that i thought was for the butterfly valves and re adjust everything later this week.

The idle jumps around on cold starts after it sits for a few days. sometimes it jumps up to 2k for a few seconds and drops. sometimes it sits at 2k for a minute and then drops. sometime i can throw a few revs and it drops. sometimes it does not. Lately ive started it up cold in the morning and it idles normally for 10 seconds or so and then climbs up and down 500 rpms a few times and settles. all without touching the gas. other times it fires up and sits at 750 and its fine.. Its so inconsistent.
The only consistent thing it does now is when its idling at 750 it surges back and forth maybe 25-50 rpm every few seconds....

Ive posted about this before but its probably something out of my league. one of the biggest improvements on the idle was when i replaces the upper spool spring. I think some of it was also from the butterfly plates not resting closed. idk
