replacing oil pressure switch

Is it necessary to drain the engine oil before replacing the oil pressure switch. I read somewhere that unscrewing the switch dumps some oil, but not a lot. Is this correct?

As long as you don't do it with the motor running! Easier to do if you do it when you change the oil filter but not necessary. You will have some oil come out but not a lot.

I meant the light SWITCH which looks different and is on the driver side! I believe you refer to the SENSOR, and not the switch.

You do get a lot more oil out when you do the one on the driver's side but you can catch it with some rags. Check the wire going to it, they get real crispy and then the light will flicker when the insulation comes off. Put a sleeve on it that can handle the temperature.
