An answer to the "why are they building new tubs" question?

Possibly. I was considering that. It's about the only logical reason, too. If Epic EV can get them titled as new experimental vehicles or by skating the laws like they already do for their cars, it would allow Houston to legitimately make the claim of building new DeLoreans, but the problem that creates is a sudden demand for body panels and a decrease in the solidarity of the DeLorean marque as a whole. The DeLorean, today, is a rare car that was made in limited numbers. If a run of EVs causes them to sell 2,000 more, then the number of DeLorean-like cars on the road increases and the perceived rarity falls. It also would drastically hurt the value of the cars if they build identical-looking knock-offs that sell for less than $25,000.00. If it's cheaper to buy an electric duplicate of a DeLorean instead of an original, how many potential sales will that disrupt?

I LOVE that steering wheel!

Sitting in my garage is an electric vehicle manufactured here in Australia that was converted from a Hyundai Getz (specifically a Blade Electron Mk V (http://www.riumplus.com/hidden/blade_electron6.jpg)). I've no more information than anyone else, the specs in the article are for the Epic EV Torq Roadster not the DeLorean, I'm by no means an expert on electric cars, and I'm probably wrong about a lot of this, but here's my opinion so far:

-If they're really using a 150kW electric motor it should have better acceleration than even a Stage II DeLorean, especially right off the starting line. I'd like to know which motor they're planning to use
-I'm quite interested in the batteries too, last I checked 24-30kWh of LiFePO4 batteries was expensive. At a rough guess, for a DeLorean I'd say you'd get around 140 miles of range
-However I'm not so sure about that battery capacity. That would probably require an increase in the vehicle's weight which comes with all sorts of problems... The weight can be better distributed throughout the car though, so we'll see.
-How much of the car's accessories are they adapting vs replacing? They're probably replacing the AC system for starters
-Manual, Automatic, adaptable to both, or a completely new/direct-drive gearbox?
-There's no worries of electric DeLoreans flooding the market. A well-done conversion isn't cheap. Expect a conversion to cost $15-20k on top of the car itself. It'll probably be another thing only offered for "new build" cars.
-Living in Australia it'd be a bit hard for me to send the car to an official dealer to perform an electric conversion. Please please please offer a kit version, or just sell me the key parts and I'll sort out the rest.

The Steering Wheel is made by Momo: Millenium Evo Steering Wheel
http://www.momousa.com/products/products/steering-wheels/millenium-evo-steering-wheel.html

That was my first choice for a steering wheel, since I am doing the custom double-din dash upgrade. Then I came across another Momo steering wheel: GTR 2 Steering Wheel http://www.momousa.com/products/products/steering-wheels/gtr-2-steering-wheel.html I like that one better!

The GTR 2 looks good, but I think the Millenium Evo is simpler and might be more appropriate with a stock interior. I really dislike the Momo logo in the center. Easily fixed, but it's amazing how the DMC logo makes it look much better!

The electric D is very cool, but I don't see doing much volume. I bet it'll cost more than a New Build (because of the batteries), and that will limit the market. Plus, the electric cars are still very niche... In about 4 years Tesla has sold less than 1900 roadsters.

I have that wheel, except mine isn't a Momo, it's an Ektor. I can't remember where I bought it, but I found a shot online here: http://www.trsmotorsport.co.uk/8073.htm I remember it was pretty damned inexpensive, like $60 or so. Of course, you need the adapter from Houston too. It is nice and "dense" feeling in the hands. It is a little bit smaller diameter, but that makes it feel sportier. It does however mean that it blocks the gauges more depending on how much tilt you put on your column. The chrome accent pieces are probably the main difference between this one and the Momo. These are chrome covered plastic and feel cheap if you rap on them. To look at it however, not a problem. I'm planning on having a friend machine replacements out of polished aluminum for me, but that's on the back burner. I removed the center logo but haven't yet replaced it with anything. Here's a shot:

yeah thats pretty good for just $60. i like the interior photo of the ev, just one problem, you have to remove the ipod bracket to adjust the A/C fan speed

i wonder why they didnt 'shop in their modern electric AC control panel ( for the LHD cars) since an EV would probably need them and would look newer too.

The combination of a high price and limited range and not many service centers will limit demand. It IS another outlet for DMCH to sell parts though. The more parts DMCH can sell the better for ALL Delorean owners in general. We need a healthy and profitable DMCH so they can stay in business. I don't hear too many people complaining about all of the BTTF cars that have been cloned. An original, unmolested Delorean in good condition will not have it's price affected by this except maybe to go up. Car collectors always prefer the original car so a conversion won't hurt the market. It's done all the time with replicas and clones in other Marques. A well documented and taken care of car will always be in demand.

I think this is fantastic!! IF this really does happen, I will submit my car for conversion and pay the price! That way I could rationalize it as "purchasing and electric car" I could still live the dream, and never pay for gas again!! Maybe, it's just a thought, but if the price is right I'd do it. There is no way its gonna be in the $25,000 range though. I'd bet closer to $60,000 to $70,000. Or maaaaby comparable to the Volt. But its all about perceived viability of said car. The general publics interest in the Delorean wasn't enough to keep DMCL afloat in the 80s, and its not strong enough now to catapult DMCH into manufacturing new automobiles. I find it highly unlikely that it will be strong enough now to push this DMCEV into anything other than an interesting piece of the already colorful Delorean story.

Haven't we see this before with the Solstice?

Another lame go no where publicity stunt. This company has been promissing and failing to deliver a new binnacle for nearly ten years, But I'm sure if someone ponies up the est 90-100K asking price they'll build them one (electric car). But with only 15 "new" builds sold at the 57K asking price how many are going to trip over each other to pay 100k for the electric one? You can buy a NEW Tesla for a hell of a lot cheaper and not have to field the BTTF jokes, or listen to the "manufacturers" excuses for and spin on your "new" car being 80% 30 year old parts which some of them are even used in your "new" car that you just shelled out a 100K for.

It is no secret that I'm on the outs with DMC from a business stand point. I will say though in their defense that from a marketing stand they are doing things right for the direction they want the company to go. They are taking current trends and applying them to a 30 year old platform.

Is the Delorean restoration/repair market declining? Not one bit. It keeps getting crazier.

So over all even though I really don't care I think it is a good effort and hope it turns into something. From a personal agenda stand it will simply increase the value of real Deloreans to a degree and that can't hurt either.

Well now, maybe we're just looking at all of this from the wrong perspective. Maybe the EV DMC-12 is more of a leveraging tool than a product meant to fill a huge demand at the moment. I agree Ryan this seems to be targeted toward a different audience, and I also can't imagine that they will sell many considering they only sold 15 "new build" DeLoreans in how many years? Their claimed capacity was 6 per year.

I hope I'm wrong but I'm afraid that all this money they are spending courting imaginary "new build" and EV customers is going to cause drastic parts price increases for us their core customer base that they are largely ignoring as their prioritys shift. Seems like this "new" underbody was fast tracked for EV cars while they still drag their feet on binnacles that many of their core customers need and have been screaming for for years.

So what direction is it that you think they want the company to go? My problem with them applying current trends to a 30 year old platform is that platform deceased 29 years ago. I did not buy the car because of Stephen Wynne and James Espey, to me they are just another vendor, and that is what they are (one I really don't like doing business with, I didn't much care for Stephen when the shop was DeLorean One) not the cars namesake. They have no business reinventing or redefining it in the publics eye. It really pisses me off and tempts me to sell the damn car, I'm tempted to remove or cover any DMC logo on it as it is.

Renee_1632

No matter your view on this, there is no denying this is INCREDIBLE publicity for the car. I can't name any other comparable car that has been in the news this much recently. For a car that is so utterly misunderstood we should be thanking our lucky stars every time we see positive publicity. Yes, obviously all vendors are in their jobs to make money, but I guarantee they're also doing it because they genuinely like the car and want to continue to see it around.

(Also, I just bought a gorgeous leather covered binnacle from DMC-CA in June. What is this binnacle shortage you speak of? I asked Danny for one and he didn't even bat an eye.)

But I find it strange that some of you who seem to have a real passion for this car balk at legitimate (and I hope well intentioned) attempts to improve it. In this case, we've proven the versatility of this car and its ability to be electric in case, God forbid, we get some eco-terrorist in the white house who demands all cars be electric. This is an option available to us, and nothing more. Accept it as that. I see this as yes, a publicity stunt, but also a legitimate attempt to ensure a future for the DeLorean beyond the forseeable next few decades.

I've said this on facebook, and I'll say it here: I hate electric cars. Priuses and Volts make me want to dry heave. They're just so....gay. But I'll get behind any effort to ensure my beloved 1632 remains a historical piece around for years, even after I'm gone. And I don't care what it is, be it battery, a plutonium chamber, or a damn dog sled hitched to the chassis. And you know what? I also don't give a damn what vendor does it, be it DPI, SpecialT, or DMC. And frankly, I'm sick of this infighting and people getting pissy at one vendor or another. You like DeLoreans and strive to restore them, I do the same. I don't give a shit how it's done, or who it's done by, as long as it gets done.

So, community, grow the hell up, stop fighting, because if this support structure we have going implodes, our cars will implode along with it.

Okay. Now I'm pissed.

I've said this on facebook, and I'll say it here: I hate electric cars. Priuses and Volts make me want to dry heave.

That's probably because the only incarnations of Electric Cars that we ever see are neutered versions that are always being implemented for economy. So they get wimpy motors, as well as the attitudes of the kind of people who drive them turn people off. Here are some examples of what happens when you tune an electric car for performance rather than economy:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=az_27NeLKuI

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9psoOXNbx2k

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQvCTN1tQYs

Here also is a breif article interviewing the owner of an electric dragster who totally hits the nail on the head as to why EV cars have such a negative reputation. (http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/7.03/drag.html)

Electric cars have allot of potential for performance, but because they keep getting touted for economy, there is an almost negative perception of them. Imagine if things were backwards, and this whole time people were driving electric cars, and NOW gasoline was introduced. But instead of seeing a modern engine built for performance, you saw the equivalent of a go cart engine trying to power a car since someone was going to the extreme to show weight savings and maximum efficiency in the car's application. People would think that Internal Combustion Engines were slow and would likely have the same perceptions of them that they currently do of electric cars. Let's face it, you've got to sacrifice *some* efficiency at times for fun.

Now I like the DMCEV. I do believe that it's a step in the right direction of sorts, but with all due respect, in it's current configuration it is likely NOT something that I would buy as a conversion for my car. A 2nd car? That's pretty likely if I had the money, yeah. But not as a primary DeLorean. While the mileage rage is good for a commuter, I like the touring ability that gasoline affords. A few times on a whim I've decided to go for a long drive either around town or out of state, and if I'm going to a car show I don't want to have to trailer my car the whole way.

What would *I* want for an EV Conversion?

Improve motor output to at least 350bhp.
Single-Piece Transmission Input Shaft (or whatever the DMCEV is using, though it's not mentioned).
Remove HALF of the batteries, leave the rest in place to act in a capacitive function.
Drop Regenerative Braking Option.
Install 4-stroke Generator.

Let me have the instant torque and High Output of a Performance Electric Motor, and couple it with gasoline to give me unlimited rage. The Generator itself may not be able to sustain constant power per se for continuous WOT equivalency, but you'd always have plenty of power on hand, and the capacitive battery array should be able to quickly recharge itself in a fair amount of time for you to thrash the car when the desire to do so hits you. Now I'm not an EV expert, and if this isn't possible I'd love to know the reasons why. Not saying this as a challenge, but as someone who wants to learn more about EVs. But I honestly see no reason why this couldn't be achieved. Especially in a DeLorean where we've got LOTS of space to fit all of this.

This is just another thing that has had me consider selling my cars, too. I'd probably put forth some effort in that department if it weren't for the state of the economy. Realistically, I'll probably just park the car and come back to it in a while. Winter also provides me with a forced break from the car, so that'll let me build up my tolerance of the public again.

As a commuter car EV's are great. Though even if you're stopped in traffic there are still other electronics that do consume electricity, miniscule as they are. Short of perhaps a hurricane evacuation that leaves people stranded for hours in traffic though, it may not impact the overall range of the car enough to strand the driver. I know what you mean by your joke, but there is honestly more to it than that for me.

In any case though there are still certain major types of geographic profiles where EVs, even with a 100-mile range are still not feasible. Southern California is a place where the sprawl is so horrible that it almost makes hundreds of miles look like a single city. Granted the economy has since gone downhill, but even as far back as the late 80's/early 90's people would commute 100 miles one way to go from the high desert to Downtown L.A. Likewise even here in Houston, it's 60 miles to my brother-in-law's house. That gives me 10 miles to spare, but then leaves me stranded at my in-law's while I wait for it to recharge.:8ball: So that's out of the question.

The range of an EV really needs to be 250+ miles for it to be considered as a primary vehicle in most major markets. Otherwise it's just an appliance with a specific function. For that boring cars are OK, though still yet why wouldn't I simply buy an old Cavalier or other clunker for something I'm only going to be driving a few hours a week, and then just leave the really fun car at home? Myself, I'd rather have my car be both. Plus every one has vices. Some people smoke, some gamble, some drink. Me? I burn fuel. If I've got cash to spare, I'll drop $50-$70 on a tank of gas and drive somewhere for no reason other than to just see where that highway or road goes. That's just me. And unfortunately most EVs don't afford that luxury for me. Which is why I'd REALLY love to either have the 250+mile range, or preferably the unlimited rage via an on board generator.

You all have got to be kidding me...right! I can't believe this and some other comments I've been reading on this forum since I bought my car in '07. I joined hoping for some comradery but what I've seen here is a whole lot of whining, backstabbing and elitism. Who cares about how one wishes to run their business? Who cares how they get publicity? Who cares what car is what and does what in reality or fantasy? We all should. Instead of complaining you should be thanking DMCH and every other vendor out there. They're the ones who put their money on the line and step up every day risking everything they have keeping you people happy. After all is said and done who wins here? We all do. What's wrong with you people. Renee said it best and I suggest you read her post over and over again until you finally get it! But...maybe you never will.

Winter also provides me with a forced break from the car, so that'll let me build up my tolerance of the public again.

I hear you on that. I once posted on DMCH's Facebook page that the random comments left by people was an excellent simulation of DeLorean ownership with the stupidity and tired jokes and comments posted there mirroring what you'll encounter with people in real life. It's not about being bitter at all. It's just you try to enjoy your car, and face constant criticism for owning one. Other marques honestly have no idea what we go through, so they can't relate. I think that Hybrid car owners are the only people in terms of criticism that come close to DeLorean owners in terms of getting ragged on, but they're usually way too self absorbed to even register what's going on.

Still though, I'm not going to let anyone's opinions or comments stop me from doing what I want to do, and that's own a DeLorean. Plus I'd rather be associated with what I've found to be the typical DeLorean Owner: Someone whose Eccentric. One way or another, almost all of us here are. We just have different interests which attract our eccentricities. And being eccentric is better than just being an asshole.

So, community, grow the hell up, stop fighting, because if this support structure we have going implodes, our cars will implode along with it.

I agree with Renee on this. I believe our cars would survive mechanically, but when it came to DeLorean specific pieces we'd be left up shit creek. It's very easy to criticize vendors for what they don't have and don't do, and take them for granted. Take a moment of reflection and be thankful that there are multiple independent and networked vendors there for our needs, and willing to push ahead in market that many would concider to have it's days numbered. When it comes to discussions like these I'm always grateful that I'm a DeLorean enthusiast and not a Bricklin enthusiast. I don't see them enjoying the support we have so much to the point we can bitch about it!

The perks of the Capitalist system is that as a consumer, I have a choice in which business I frequent. DMCH has a monopoly on parts, so I have no choice in that regard. As a result, I can voice my opinion in vain; that I want to be able to use my DeLorean as a car and reliable transportation. If all that the community does is praise DMCH and worship them like a DeLorean demigod, what's to stop them from raising prices on the cars that make them infeasible to operate on a daily basis? I've explained my reasons before and some people see what I do. In the end, if you own a DeLorean, you have a vested interest in how DMCH operates by being a part of their captive audience. As such, I'm going to keep watching their business practices and keep my eye on alternatives to their offerings.

I'd say that the only marquee that has CLOSE to an idea of what we go through is the Fiero. They get a lot of stupid comments, too, but not quite as many due to the lack of a major movie featuring a Fiero. Perhaps if BTTF wasn't filled with so many one-liners, it wouldn't be so bad.

In any case, I do love my DeLorean and driving it is a blast. I just hate the people I have to deal with...

Now, your picture inspired me to go unwind with a nice cup of Earl Grey tea and listen to some Mendelssohn on the phonograph, while wearing a top hat and monocle.

Now that's got my curiosity up. Other than something related to kit cars, or a "Poor Man's DeLorean", what do Fiero owners get in the realm of stupid comments?

If nothing else I've aways said that one of the most used tools that any DeLorean owner could use outside of a 10mm Rachet is a razor-sharp wit.

Monocles are awesome! They're triple-function pieces. The function well as eye wear, they look cool, and they help get the point across when you're shocked by something when you can just let them fall out.

Just looked Mendelssohn up on YouTube... Yeah, I know what album I'm buying next!

(father was a HUGE fan of classical music, Rossini first got me hooked, as well as when I was like 8 or 9 years old and stayed up late one night after my parents went to sleep and watched "A Clockwork Orange".)

Here are a few:
"Don't those catch on fire randomly?"
"How is it running?"
"Those things are death traps!"
"I dated a girl who drove one of those back in the '80s"
"Why didn't you get the V8 one?" (No V8s were made.)
"That was DeLorean's other car."

I find the monocle extremely handy for working on electrical wiring. I can read a schematic and then look at the wiring without having to fumble for glasses merely by switching which eye I focus with.

I figured I'd reference Mendelssohn because, 1. I'm listening to "Symphony No. 4 in A Major" now and his works are excellent, if not as commercially known and 2. I demonstrated an actual knowledge of classical music.

I wonder when the car show "is that the electric version?" questions are going to start.

Is it bad that my first thought after the steering wheel was "this is the conversion Doc should of done in 2015. Then the third movie wouldn't of been an issue."?

I'm not a fan of electric or hybrid cars but mainly because they are ugly. This is finally an electric vehicle that looks good. I'm excited to see how it does in the market.

I also hope there's a list of squeaks and rattles and how they eliminate them so maybe we can do that to our Ds.

I wonder when the car show "is that the electric version?" questions are going to start.

More like "is that one of them "new" electric DeLoreans their building in Texas!?"

How do they plan to build these cars without left front fenders and binnacles?

My point exactly, I'll add to that a ever aging (30+ years) stockpile of parts that they routinely put in (80% of their build) what people and the media have been lead to believe to be New cars.

No matter your view on this, there is no denying this is INCREDIBLE publicity for the car. I can't name any other comparable car that has been in the news this much recently.

I really don't care for the publicity, it just creates more confussion and misinformation in the general public about a car that already has a great deal of misinformation about it out already, and you can not escape the BTTF refferences that the media twists in so does all the attention the media gives get our cars taken more seriously? But obviously someone pulling the strings at DMCH has become a media whore, but with some of the personalities there I don't find that too surprising.

(Also, I just bought a gorgeous leather covered binnacle from DMC-CA in June. What is this binnacle shortage you speak of? I asked Danny for one and he didn't even bat an eye.)

Covered binnacle exactly. DMCH has been promissing new molded plastic binnacles like what our cars originally had when they where new for nearly ten years. In 2005 they claimed in an issue of DeLoreans that they were then "months away". Well it has been almost 96 months since then.

The binnacle debacle is an illustration of why this company in Texas should be ashamed to use the same company name as our cars original manufacturer. Lets compare their accomplishments. If new binnacles become available this month or next, since the time they were 1st announced by Houston until now the same amount of time has now passed that it took JZD and his associates to form DMC in 1974, raise all the money, design the entire car, turn a marsh into a factory in N. Ireland, build all 9,000 or so of our cars, and go bankrupt in the same amount of time it's taken houston to make a lousy binnacle. And they call themselves DeLorean Motor Company?

Instead of complaining you should be thanking DMCH and every other vendor out there. They're the ones who put their money on the line and step up every day risking everything they have keeping you people happy.

I think you have that flipped, us thank the vendors for them existing? they exist because of us, They should be thanking us for being their customers. As without us they could not exist. Not vice-versa.

When it comes to discussions like these I'm always grateful that I'm a DeLorean enthusiast and not a Bricklin enthusiast. I don't see them enjoying the support we have so much to the point we can bitch about it!

Actually I envy the Bricklin community, they have parts vendors, not one of them has named themselves in order to mislead the general public into believing they are the original manufacturer, and no one is claiming to be building new cars.

Touchy, aren't we? =)

I guess so, but I have endured public personal attacks on here (and now elsewhere) from the Vice President of the above mentioned company for daring to criticize their misleading marketing of their restored cars which are often reported by the media as being new cars, as well as my ctiticism of a handfull of the parts they produce that I among others find unsatisfactory.

If you too were enduring personal attacks from a particular vendor you'd probably be a little touchy too.

More like "is that one of them "new" electric DeLoreans their building in Texas!?"

I've already gotten this on a few other places online; the posts announcing that you'll be able to buy a "Brand-New electric DeLorean" with no mention to price and used parts.

My point exactly, I'll add to that a ever aging (30+ years) stockpile of parts that they routinely put in (80% of their build) what people and the media have been lead to believe to be New cars.

This is another deliberately misleading approach. I'm now 100% convinced that the term "New Build" was chosen to be as misleading and deceptive as possible.

I really don't care for the publicity, it just creates more confussion and misinformation in the general public about a car that already has a great deal of misinformation about it out already, and you can not escape the BTTF refferences that the media twists in so does all the attention the media gives get our cars taken more seriously? I've also publicly stated that they're media whores. To cite a few examples: partnerships; The Hundreds, Romain Jerome Watches, Nike shoes, EpicEV; the Pontiac Solstace debacle, the misleading "New Build" coverage, and I'm sure a few other people can chime in with some more.

For many, myself included, the covered binnacle is NOT an acceptable solution. I can't stand the look and it's not a factory solution or the replacement part that they promised in 2005.

The intentionally misleading use of the DeLorean Motor Company name and, albeit Wikipedia is an unreliable source, it shows DMCH as a later continuation of the REAL DeLorean Motor Company. In reality, they're just a Johnny-come-lately who are trying to profit from misunderstanding and the legacy of an existing name; carried on the back of misinformation. They are NOT the original company and cheapen their legacy with their blatantly intentional deceptive association. In nearly 6 years, they can't reproduce the binnacles, but they can create new underbodies? If they were to create a binnacle replacement and sell it for $1,000.00 or so, they'd see a few sales at least; especially if they announced something like a limited run of 10 or 100 to keep from using up too much capital. I'd be willing to wager that if they offered 10 binnacles in original style, in each color, at $1,000.00 apiece, they'd be sold out in less than a week. This is a clear example of how their personal agenda, more and more in recent years, has been taking the forefront to listening to the demands of their core customer base.

I think you have that flipped, us thank the vendors for them existing? they exist because of us, They should be thanking us for being their customers. As without us they could not exist. Not vice-versa.

This is exactly right. As customers, WE call the shots. It's the companies that owe us and that's how it should be. I'm sure they realize that they walk a fine line; if they start raising the prices on parts too much, we'll find alternatives. It's the parts that we can't find alternatives to that they control the market for. Any business is in it to make money: period. It doesn't matter what type of business you run or how much you love your work or the amount of pride and love you put into your craft. Pride and love can't be used to pay the bills. If they take a loss in one area, do you think that they'll absorb the cost and continue on as before or will they compensate by increasing their profit margin in other areas? If you think the former, then try it and see how long you last in the business world. Ultimately, every decision DMCH makes affects us directly in terms of the price we pay in parts or labor. To assume that they're doing it solely out of love for the DeLorean is an open invitation for them to rob us blind. As of right now, what's to stop them from raising prices to the levels DeLorean1 used to charge? Absolutely nothing. Keep this in mind every time they announce some new undertaking. The money has to come from somewhere and their customer base is the strongest source of revenue that they have.

Actually I envy the Bricklin community, they have parts vendors, not one of them has named themselves in order to mislead the general public into believing they are the original manufacturer, and no one is claiming to be building new cars.

Almost every single part is available for the Bricklin. They even re-manufacture the body panels out of fiberglass now. Every engine and transmission part is available and they're a lot easier to find parts for due to the domestic nature. They also have an extensive cross-over list that allows readily-available parts to be sourced for nearly all repairs. This is what happens when people don't have the luxury of a parts supplier to fall back on; they get creative and find things for themselves. They survived without a "savior" to come crawling to and they only had 3,000 cars made and no movie to inspire stupid comments. The Bricklin has lived on solely through the loyalty and dedication of the owners. The DeLorean would have lived on without DMCH and may eventually move away from them if their parts costs increase.

Those are both good points. So many of the new young owners, and I use the term with a grain of salt, seeing as I'm 22 and presently have owned 3 different DeLoreans, but many people are exposed to the car solely through BTTF, a heavy majority online, and stumble on to either this site or DMCH and don't make the most informed choices. The DeLorean is a car with a unique, turbulent history. It seems that its always destined to be so. The fact of it is that it's a good life lesson to never be complacent with a company that you do business with. I know of only a few people who have ever been blacklisted from DMCH and it would sure generate a lot of negative publicity if they start that on a larger scale, but isn't all publicity good?

But I've been a DeLorean owner for about 5 years now, and while I can understand you frustration, I have not experienced these problems with DMCH. From my limited perspective I have noted the same questions about parts in high demand with no availability. I have also voiced my dissatisfaction with the work I had done on my car down in DMCFL. I have since worked only with the parent company, and I have nothing to complain about.

I put up with the same jokes, retarded questions, and the constant correcting of interested parties disinformation about the company almost every day I drive her. I just hope that given the requisite amount of DeLorean ownership time I will not be as bitter as some.

True Deloreans will always be gasoline based. I will never work on or own such a car. I think EV technology is a joke seeing how our world is built on fossil fuels to begin with. Electricity comes from somewhere folks..... If the sales of EV cars etc creates revenue for their company to further develope more parts for the original product base then more power to it.

I hope the EV sales bring more profit then the development costs, so our parts prices don't go up. I don't like at all the "new car" reporting of it that I've seen and I am no longer giving DMCH any benefit of the doubt about "the media twisting what is said" BS. But personaly I find it sad that when the DeLorean was 1st built it was done so with new ideas that were not embraced by the big three at the time. Now converting the DeLorean to be an EV (DMCH's crowning achievment) it's not inivating. It's just a me too move.

Like I said I won't be buying an EV, nor a Stage 1, 2, or 3 upgrade. If a vendor wants my money for a performance enhancement give me a period correct twin turbo (Legends design preferably), with the proper modifications to the PRV to take the forced induction.

What's the charging time, and does it only do 120V, or will it also take at least 220V?

I think 3.5 hours from empty.

I'd like to know what the travel time would be traveling from Houston to the DCS in Orlando in the Electric DeLorean as compared to a standard gas powered DeLorean?

Somewhere I read 240V.

Does it have an improved actual ground bus, or will these electric DeLorean's "new owners" be forever checking their grounds?

Although part of this information is a cross-post from the new windshield thread,
I thought I would re-post the related part of it here, as to not lose the thought.

Referencing the new windshield discussions, I thought about the major benefits
the UV barrier would provide for the DMC EV, both keeping the interior cool and
using less battery power to keep it cool, therefore, extending the car's range.
This would certainly be something to consider prior to the actual 2013 launch.

Later,
Rich W.

If the 2013 deadline proves to be anything like the 2005 binnacle release date, then we'll never see this car again.

Since I seem to be posting a lot of the information here, I thought I might as well post some more :P

DMCH have set up a website for the vehicle: www.dmcev.com . There's nothing new there - a press release, the previously-mentioned specs plus you can signup for email updates.

Double Din Dash upgrade. How much would something like that cost if I was to take it to DMCH to do the work?

It isn't a stock part but rather a custom project one of the forum members was working on.
