before i get started i want to know if this is how everyone has there wiring harness routed?

Mine is burried under the fuel distributor/ butterfly/wpipe ect..

This is mine. Now I have eliminated the main power wires from the harness and tucked the remaining wires just under the surface. If you're wires are going through the valley it means someone has been there before. I say do what you want. I've seen a few different configurations. I just don't like the look of the original config.

Agreed. Much cleaner to have them routed underneath.

The wiring harness is an eyesore and a crap design for the power to the alternator and starter.

I removed the 3 smaller gauge wires (I think they were 10 gauge) and rerouted a 4 gauge off the unused hot point behind the coil cover along the pontoon side to the alternator which greatly shortened the path and gave me a few tenths on my volt gauge. Also eliminated the old Ducy signal wire totally which now means the harness has 4 less wires. The remainder was tucked and rerouted out of sight. The parts of the harness that were in sight were sleeved with tutanium heat shield braid for both protection and asthetics.

gd. both very clean.. nice work! I will be tearing it back down to vod tomorrow. I didnt like the fact that the wiring harness now is somewhat smashed up against the distributer. I believe that i have a mis in the car due to one of the wires being loose on the distributor. Which may have been knocked loose trying to get all the wires back in there. I just read that some of the early cars ran wires across the top(like the pic i sent) and they later ran it underneath. I want the space especially since im also having issues with the aux air pipe.. it runs right through that wiring mess..

Im going to get it apart tomorrow and re evaluate.

Next question-- When i put the manifold back in over the valley is there anything special i should do with the new O rings? Any tricks to make sure they seal properly?

As long as the grooves and the manifold faces are clean and smooth you don't have to do anything to the o-rings.

It doesn't hurt to lube/wipe them with motor oil, auto grease or silicone lube. No sealant, tho. If the o-rings were old/flattened use new ones.

I got mine at the local Advance Auto parts. The type I got is very small diameter (like 1/2" expandable to 1") which works well for the harness and comes with several heat shrink ends, (I believe I used zip ties as an extra precaution on the areas that don't see high temps).

Whatever you do make sure there is no way the wires can come in contact with the throttle mechanism. It was the subject of a recall. I agree there are better ways to route the harness than the way the factory did it.
