Governor Rebuild Time - General Questions

Hey gang - I?m sending my AT gov to DMCMW tomorrow, but in the interim have some questions I came up with during the removal that I?d love answers to for the reinstall.

1) Both the GC and the Switch Connector both have their own o-ring seals. Is the reco to get new o-rings for both or just clean and use the old ones?

2) I assume I need to clean all mating surfaces on the trans (where these two were plugged in). Does any sort of oil need to be lubed-up around there, kind of like oiling the surface of a new oil filter? If so, I?d imagine the GC gets differential oil and the Switch Connector gets AT fluid.

3) Upon removal of the GC, I?d say about two tablespoons of oil came with it, out of the hole it was in within the final drive. Is this small amount necessary to replace?

4) What?s your fave AT fluid? Brand? Synthetic?

5) Any other tips for reinstall I?ll take - thanks in advance!

It's always best to replace the gaskets or seals. There's no guarantee that they will be able to get a good seat. They have seen many heat cycles.

A couple table spoons of oil shouldn't be that big a deal but if it hasn't been changed in a while I would change it.

These items are cheap so there's no need to be cheap.
You always want to use the closest thing that is already in your transmission. Some fluids don't mix well.

It's always best to replace the "O" rings but when you get it back they will probably include new ones. If they don't you should be able to pick them up locally at any large auto store. When installing them use a few drops of ATF on them, they both get ATF. The final drive is a separate chamber and uses 80W-90 gear oil. You should at least check the level but best to just change it and put in fresh. The procedure in the Workshop Manual covers reinstalling it and adjusting the throttle cable. Make sure you route the wiring harness so it is not near any exhaust pipes and is secured with zip-ties so it can't get damaged. Once you get it driving again and hot, check the fluid level in the transmission as per the Workshop Manual. Too much is almost as bad as not enough.
