can anyone share easiest way to check for leaks? I have a smoke machine now. Was hoping to use it over chasing dye. Ive charged the car on two different occasions in the past and everything works. It lasts about 2 weeks. Is there an common spot that leaks that I should check first? Any advice/starting points appreciated.. Maybe point me to old thread if possible so I dont waste everyones time. I couldnt find one detailing smoke test on ac.

Thanks

Dave.

You don't use a smoke machine to find leaks in the A/C system. Not enough pressure.

The correct way to test for AC leaks is to spray something like Big Blue, starting with all the threaded connections, and watching for bubbles forming where the gas is leaking out. Sometimes you can actually hear it leaking if your garage is completely quiet.

I recently revamped my A/C system and used nitrogen to pressure test. I tested it to 250 PSI and after I solved a couple of leaks, it held pressure indefinitely so I was finally confident to charge the system. When re-filling, I added UV dye so I can find future leaks easier.

If you have an A/C gauge set you can use it to fill the system with nitrogen. You will have to borrow or buy a 20 cu ft cylinder, N2 regulator, and probably a special fitting to connect your yellow A/C gauge hose to it. I can provide more details if that's a way you want to go.
