Anyone have info on the new Stage 3 upgrade from the open house, I know a few people drove it at the track. I want to know the HP

If I heard correctly at the DMCH Open House, Stephen said it was 256 HP,
or basically, close to double the original, stock DeLorean HP rating.
I thought I had heard the RWHP rating (but not 100%, so others chime in),
and the torque was also close to double the original, stock DeLorean rating.
Ed Uding had a grand old time, flogging that car around the track Sunday.
If I had to guess, he stayed in 2nd gear or 3rd gear the whole way around.
Sounded great on the track. Can't wait to see one in stainless (unwrapped)
running around the track or blasting around on the Interstate.
Later,
Rich W.

Okay, stage 1 was the exhaust upgrade, stage 2 was the cam and head rework what is involved with the stage 3 system?

Zoom zoom! I can only imagine it's better than what Steve brought to our tech session a few years ago and even then it hauled some serious butt.

I would not hesitate to send mine off for this mod if it were to put around 200ish or more to the wheels, but it's only avaliable for manual transmissions.

That would be cool if it will be. The pricing has been announced already; and it is not cheap: $8,995 to go from stage 2 to stage 3.

Is the Stage II engine still available based on a zero-mile crate engine? (can't find it on the Delorean.com store)

can you get the stage 3 upgrade without the stage 2 upgrade. That sounds awesome, belt driven supercharger.

The Stage 3 car was pretty bitchin, no other way to describe it. Stephen loved asking me how much horsepower I thought it was after I had driven it. I guessed mid to high 200's, but was shocked to hear it was only around 160 (directly at wheels). The torque was around 180 though, and that was what I was feeling.
Honestly I was pretty skeptical in regards to how much the PRV could be pushed, but I tip my hat to Stephen and the crew who worked on this kit. I took it for a spin with Dave S. and drove the car very hard to the point that he asked me (more of suggested to me) that it might be best if I don't red line it while switching between gears. :driving1:
At this point, I highly recommend this kit as a way to make the DMC a lot more fun to drive without doing a whole engine swap. The Ed suspension on it also felt great and made the acceleration and cornering feel a lot more solid.
Here are some pics. I took of the car and the kit. Enjoy! :)

What kind of engine management system is used? Both spark and fuel injection controlled? I suppose it is EFI.

If you look at the pictures, it's K-Jetronic still. In fact looking at the manifolds and piping it's plumbed the exact same as the Island Twin Turbo with the compressor being mounted aft of the Mixture Unit & Throttle Plates, and the output dumping into the Intake Manifold.
If it were $9K for the upgrade alone, I could easily see paying that since it is in fact cheaper than an engine swap, but only if it hits above 250+bhp.
Gotta say though that whomever came up with that solution to add the serpentine drive pulley is a damn genius! That is as beautiful as it is simplistic! The Legend Industries turbo was a nice setup, but this looks more like the route that the original car should have gone in.
The big question however is what is that tank up in the upper left corner of the engine bay for? Please tell me that there isn't any water injection required.

Being a "test car" it has remnants of prior installations. Methanol injection was tried and abandoned, they never got around to removing the bottle. So - nothing is injected now other than fuel.

Why people drool over horsepower numbers and ignore torque is beyond me.

Torque is where it's at!
My 300C Hemi has 345hp but almost 400 ft pounds of torque!

I did not get a chance to ask this question at the Open House, so I guess
the next best thing is to post it here.
Is there any thought to adding an intercooler or a cold air intake system?
I have driven a few supercharged vehicles and the ones that make the most
power and the least detonation are the systems with at least one intercooler.
Just curious.
Thanks,
Rich W.

Cold air intake though looks like it would be a snap. Mount a 90° elbow in place of the existing air filter, and then run the hose back following the intake to the compressor. Then just route it down back under the compressor, over to the Air Plenum and then you're done.
Unless you had some sort of Intercooler connected before the air filter, I don't see offhand how there could be any other way to install one here. At least not without scrapping the manifolds. And if you did go that route, I could easily see glassing in the existing Plenum Hole, and then cutting an Access Panel into the right rear pontoon. Drill some holes for Rivnuts in the pontoon, and then mount the entire Intercooler and Air Filter Assembly inside of there. Use the stock Air Plenum, just rotate it to face forward, then cut a hole on the front side of the access panel and run the hose/tube up to the Mixture Unit Intake. You could at this point maybe get creative with ducting and whatnot out of the wheel well, but it might just be easier to simply use a Liquid Intercooler and plumb the fluid lines to the radiator elsewhere. Perhaps inside of the frame, next to the transmission, but below the coolant pipes...

+1 on the intercooler. "Cold Air" by itself doesnt seem to do enough in terms of preventing detonation as much as an intercooler/water injection, etc...
As far as detonation is concerned, are the pistons in the stage 3 stock cast or forged? They better be forged :elmo3:

Last I heard, DMCH was vehement about keeping all internals stock (ie cast). This is why this project has taken so long... they had to figure out how to add boost & not destroy the engine while keeping the PRV totally stock. They probably should have scrapped K-jet in favor of EFI, implemented forged pistons, added an intercooler, etc. But then they would have had to source more outside parts, do some more engineering, they'd have even more K-Jet parts which would just stay sitting on the shelves of their warehouse unsold, etc.

Where did you see this price? I do not seing anything on delorean.com. Stephen told me $5.5-6K when I talked to him in July.... and that the HP expectation would be around 250HP but that could have been at the flywheel, not sure. I am also curious what the offical power/torque is announced as. I am also wondering about power/torque to go from Stage I to III.
Once DMC makes the official announcement I am sure my Qs will be answered.

Somehow I think that keeping K-Jetronic probably has more to do with maintaining the vehicle's current emissions certifications and standards than anything else.
Forged pistons would be nice. Though what are the limitations due to the PRV's Wet Jacket design with being able to handle increased boost? I've heard that when Legend Industries did their first project, the Fiat Spyder, that it was a breeze thanks to the engine. But with the PRV it was totally different since the engine couldn't take the pressures thanks to cylinder liner seals, or headgaskets, or something always blowing.

Nice. Was that a custom made turbocharger or "off the shelf" for something else with custom fabricated air horns?

So far, it seems this is the only Stage III car. Anybody catch the VIN? I couldn't find it in the thread.
Also, from the pictures, it looks like it is painted gray. Anyone have any more info about car.

James also mentioned in his post to me that they had 8 or 9 units set to go out the door. If that means they had 8 or 9 'kits' ready to be installed, or already installed, I don't know.

I don't think that would really be that much of a problem. The Lotus Esprit 4 cylinder cars have an engine that is wet jacket as well. Pre-chargecooler was a moderate amount of boost (7-8 psi), but the later charger cooled cars run a full bar, which is pretty darn good.

Sorry, I don't know the VIN but it has been a company-owned test car for a long time. The grey "paint" is actually a wrap like you see on advertising cars a lot now. It will peel off the stainless when needed.
