Pulling apart the car and I've noticed that the alternator is a 70AMP french motorola unit, I am of course replacing it but its got me scratching my head:

Early cars had a 80Amp that was quickly replaced with a 90Amp unit, my car is a late VIN 15393, so it came from the factory with the 90Amp unit and then... the owner/garage replaced it with a alternator that was thirty amps less, that makes no sense to me.

To deepen the mystery the date on it is week 48, 1979 - so could it have been factory installed and the 70 amp was all they could get their hands on to get the car finished?

Highly doubt the factory did it, far more likely that in the early days the owner didn't know where to get parts so they had it at a foreign car mechanic who "made something work".

It could also have happened at a QAC center. They did a lot of strange things to get the cars put together enough to sell. Towards the end they were cannibalizing some cars to make others complete. After the bankruptcy they had to put the ones they had cannibalized back together. The DMA had some speakers that used to work in a QAC and they had a lot of interesting stories!

I'd suspect that it's really the Motorola model 1979, not a date code.

Here is an example

It's actually the year, "SEM" is the week (semaine) and "AN" is the year "annee".

It doesn't appear to be a hack job, bracket all looks good, no weird spacers or anything.
