New Delorean to me

We have had our car for 3 weeks now. We went on a serious search a few weeks before. It had to be a manual and bonus points for a gas flap car and black interior. I posted on a Delorean page on Facebook and the next morning a guy said he had an 81 manual, black interior, gas flap, one owner car and the best part, he lived 5 miles from us. We picked up the car on Sept 12th and we have put about 500 miles on it so far. It only has 17k on it and hasn?t been driven in many years. It starts up immediately and hasn?t skipped a beat even in the 100 degree Vegas heat we are still having.

Yesterday I had the fuel lines changed as well as the spark plugs and an NOS distributor cap. We brought it home but did noticed a rich exhaust or fuel smell. This morning the car was hard to start and it has a vacuum leak somewhere. We did an event this morning and then drove home. The car was hard to start there and after we got home the car wouldn?t start at all. Last week I had pulled and inspected the fuses and block. All looked good. This evening I noticed #7 was cockeyed in the spot so I pulled it and even though the fuse still works, it is melted and the block is melted. I cleaned up the fuse and put it back and then the car started right away. I need to find out the causes to damage fuse 7 before I replace the block and still have the issue later. I did a search here but it won?t let me search for a specific fuse.

Melting of fuse 7 is a very common problem. I've also had this problem. There are many things in this loop that can cause the heat. Most common is corroded pins and certain items like the fuel pump drawing to much current.
Some cheap Chinese fuses will create a lot of heat before they blow. Some of the worst won't blow at all.

What I would do.

Adjust the mixture on a hot engine with a dwell meter.

Open the bottom of the warmup regulator and inspect the wiring for damage (shorting to the case).

Replace the fuses with LITTLE FUSE brand. The BUSS brand fuses don't seem to blow when running a little above the rated current.

My fuse block totally melted, had to replace it (lots of work). Apparently, the fuses corrode easily. Clean the fuses with deoxit, or replace them. Needs to be done from time to time to keep the connections clean and avoid melted fuse box
