Fuel Pump

Well great, I think my fuel pump died. Probably because of having to hit the key 20 - 30 time to get the pressure back to start the engine after the car sits for a week or two. I have one of those aftermarket units with the integral level sensor, but I can't find the replacement anywhere. I do not want the existing system. I liked the new one, well if it worked. Where can I find one, recommendations? THANKS!

I checked with Delorean TX and they do not have this unit in stock. Not sure when it will be back in. Checked with DeloreanGo and they don't carry it. But I think I remember that the unit was from a GM car. Anybody know which one? Or do I need to just go back to the original design/units? My problem with that is the stud inside the fuel tank is too short for some reason and I can't bolt down the plastic "sump". What's everybody using? Thanks!

V-band clamp is used to secure the housing to the fuel tank opening. Here is the GM/Delphi pump module:

Do we know which one Delorean TX was selling? I'm just trying to keep costs down but more importantly the least amount of work. I think mine looks like the AC Deloc one. What kinda flow do these things put out?

The DMCH box will run it but the gauge won't be as accurate.

Did you do any of the pressure checks in the other thread?
I wouldn't touch the pump unless I couldn't hear it running when jumped on at the RPM relay. Or it was making terrible noises or something like that.

I wouldn't touch the pump unless I couldn't hear it running when jumped on at the RPM relay. Or it was making terrible noises or something like that.

What I did was disconnect the engine feed hose right before the check valve at the fuel pump (12" from the fuel pump). Put the end of the hose in a mason jar and cranked over the engine. The pump buzzed but no gas flowed. I'm assuming I should have gotten some gas in the jar. I also noticed the much different sound the pump was making from before. Also, the fuel pump is almost 9 years old. Maybe it has been going bad for a while and that is why it sometimes takes so long to build up the pressure/flow????

So, I did get the Delphi FG0089 unit (including the electrical connector but no hoses) from Partzilla for $176.20 delivered. It went in with no issues. Well, there were a few plastic "tabs" I had to take off. This may remove the warranty but was needed. It even accepted the electrical connector from the old Delorean TX unit in there from 8 years ago so no electrical work. I let the car sit for 5 days and before it took a number of key turns to get the car started. Not this time, started right up. I think/hope it solved that problem also.

Your fuel gauge will not work properly, unless DMCH changed something with their sender setup.

When my DMCH pump failed many years ago I also switched to the Tahoe pump. I was able to get the gauge working by bending up a new float arm out of a coat hanger. I found the senders to operate within the same ohm range, but inverted to one another.

If you still have the old pump housing I would gladly purchase it off of you. They fit a Hellcat pump very nicely :evil3:

I'm using the tahoe pump without the sensor arm attached and just using the original DMC sensor setup (DMCH upgraded sending unit). Works just fine.

Yes an original or vendor copy of the original sender is wired directly to the fuel gauge. No ECU is required. The problem with that setup is the gauge will move a lot when going up or down hills or accelerating and stopping the car.

Got a fuel level sending unit like the original from DeloreanGo. Rewired the fuel pump and everything is working fine. And yes, the fuel gauge goes up and down when you accelerate, stop, on a hill, etc. But set still at a light or something and you get the correct level. I can live with that.

All you have to do is plug both holes in the bottom of the sending unit. It will eliminate the constant needle movement under acceleration and braking.

I have the same setup. If anybody wants to convert to the modern GM unit, I have install kits available. I like the GM MU1777 as they are still Made in Mexico. The Delphi pumps are now made in China. They can be identified by the blue plastic top. Older stock Mexican Made Delphi pumps may still be floating around out there. If you have a good working fuel sending unit, my kit is a good solution. Dave McKeen also sells a logic box that can drive the built in sender.
