Okay so I have the whole thing part and could use some words of wisdom. I long have desired a more modern experience inside the DeLorean while still respecting its iconic 80s heritage. Over the years I have seen several efforts to fit a double DIN head unit with minimum modifications but I don't recall any of those making into production or being available for the masses. At this point I am willing to take some liberties as "original" is less a concern for me these days. I have come with these:
1 - Keep my single DIN / factory controls
2- Single DIN unit with a remote screen mounted someplace (not sure such a thing exists)
3- Single DIN with a floating screen (likely blocking air vents)
4- Double DIN with modifications to factory controls
Any thoughts / ideas / examples. I know there a few around these parts that are pretty creative.....
Thanks

This is what I did to check all of my own boxes:

I've found the term "DIN" to be used inconsistently. Factory "shaft style" radios seem to still sometimes be called DIN, though growing up I always heard DIN used *only* to mean a modern 7x2inch OPENING, and not the two-knob shaft-style old radios. There are some two-knob style options out there that have modern things like Bluetooth - check out RetroSound. Last I looked they were all 60/70s style units and would look out of place in a DeLorean.
What modern features are you looking for? Here what I prioritized personally:
1: Looks good / period-correct physically. More important to me that any features. Isn't the DeLorean a case study in form over function :) .
1a: Either has green backlighting or adjustable to be green, to match the rest the center console
2: Bluetooth so I can play music from my phone
3: Retains settings (radio presets, syncing to my phone) when battery is disconnected.
I had no desire for a screen or maps or other modern features.
What fit my desires to a tee was the Blaupunkt Bremen SQR46. It's not built really well - even though it's from a good brand and LOOKS well built - it's a little plasticy... thin or cheap feeling. It's stupidly expensive for the quality. But it met all my needs above and I love the look of it. The backlighting is fully adjustable in RGB, so you can get it to match your car's backlighting very very closely.

If you wanna keep your original head unit but be able to connect your phone to it, you can do what I did. Solder an aux cable into your head unit (instructions here: https://1561project.com/?page=ipod-craig), then connect a small bluetooth adapter to it. The bluetooth part is optional but much more convenient. My phone automatically connects to the car when I turn the key and I use the Craig's volume knob to adjust volume. Costs less than 20 bucks.
Edit: Nevermind, I just saw your newer post. You already have a modern unit, I was assuming yours was still factory.

How are you guys fitting these style radios into the car? I agree that BLAUPINKT unit looks amazing, but as far as I?m aware, the radio area has the smaller narrow cutout for the radio face and 2 holes for the knobs. I haven?t pulled the faceplate off my radio ever, so I?m not 100% sure how it looks but from what I?ve seen online for the DMC that?s the layout, making any modern radio swap a lot more difficult.

Old way was to use a Dremel and widen the opening by cutting.
New way is to get one of these: https://store.delorean.com/106639d-radio-mounting-bracket-din-radio.html

Oooh. That?s nice. Are those brackets difficult to swap out? This definitely makes a DIN unit a lot more of a real consideration.

Mine was already cut out with what appears to be a Dremel so no experience with the DMC option. It would take a bit of work to use theirs but doable in a day I would think.

Not difficult, just time consuming. You will need to remove the Center Console and get it out of the car and from there, it is straight forward. Just make sure you do your grounding wires to the Radio Bracket
