I have a couple of questions about the gear lube for the steering rack.

I looked in the Technical owners guide and could only find information about the gear oil type.

The specification oil type reads: API Service GL-5

I could not find any filling instructions.

First question is, would this gear oil be ok to use in the rack?

Second question is, do I just take the top cover off where the input shaft goes in and fill it through there?

Do these get filled to the top, or is there a certain level I should fill to?

I just replaced the boots on the rack because one was torn open and I know it must have lost some fluid over time.

That will work, it' s not particularly critical. The Spec fill is 0.3 pints but this is not critical either. If you overfill it it will eventually leak out, underfilling is worse.

You can remove the cover plate being mindful of the steel shims (they are not gaskets) making sure they all go back in. Pick out the spring and plastic bearing and pour the oil in slowly. Carefully put it back together.
