Current status of the DeLorean Owner?s Association?

Is the DOA still a thing? Do they still publish the ?DeLorean World? magazine? I know the website hasn?t been updated for years.

Sadly, its really not going anywhere. I was on the board of directors for several years until just a few months ago. Sadly, Roland Hoffman that was the President, is battling cancer of the brain and isn't doing good at all and now all new members are on the board. Skip Vaughan, I think is the VP now. When I served as an East Coast side of event plannings, we talked for years about a new magazine that hasn't happened. Our zoom meetings never really went anywhere. Pretty much it seems the new player in town is the Delorean Revival group. I know they been working with the 2026 factory tour stuff and test track events, but they seem to be gathering a following.

I just checked my magazine binders boy do they have a history. All of the below was the publication published by DOA.

- The last issue of the original run of DeLorean World was Volume 19, Number 1; Winter 2002
- Name was changed to DW Magazine that ran from Summer 2002 to Summer 2005, Volume and number reset to 1, 1.
- The DeLorean World name was rebooted in a different format and replaced DW in Summer 2006 with Volume 3, number 2. The last issue was Winter 2009
- The original DeLorean World was then rebooted two years later in Fall 2011 as volume 1, number 2, and only lasted two issues with Winter 2011 (volume 1, number 1) as the last issue. Yes, they typo'ed the first issue as #2 incorrectly
- DeLorean World was then picked back up 2 years later with issue Spring/Summer 2014 as volume 25, number one - now using voluming counting since beginning in1983 and including all DW issues. It then ran two issues a year with the last issue being Fall/Winter 2019, Volume 30, number 2.

Christian is right -- Roland Hoffman has been battling cancer and that has slowed things down for the Association immensely. But we have a new Board and things are getting "back into gear". Skip took over as interim president until we could establish a new Board. He is now our VP. We are also working with DeLorean Eurofest / Revival and several of the Board are attending this June.

So from the facebook announcement it looks like the new DOA is still a California club, all cali folks running the club, no diverse national involvement? Was there a notice to members asking for interest in the vacant roles and voting held? It seems like its status quo, a local Cali club exploiting a national audience for dues.

Unfortunately, the only thing that I personally want out of the DOA are Quarterly issues of DeLorean World... Hell, I'd take an annual issue at this point.

I worked with RoHo about 3-4 years ago to get TNDMC and our group in general spotlighted in DW. Many hours, write-ups, pictures, etc about our group with promises that we'll be in the next issue - even had rough draft pages sent over to me. Unfortunately, that next issue never came about. Afterwards, DOA announced that they were pushing to do 2-3 issues of DW including one spotlighting the late Don Steger in order to catch up on everything... which never came about either.

I was quite shocked to learn from this thread about RoHo and the cancer.... Thoughts and Prayers. Simply put, that explains everything. I'm so sorry RoHo.

Regarding the Current Status of DOA: Without actual financial investment, I do not see the DOA becoming anything like what it was in the past. The way that I see it at this point is that it is up to the individual clubs and groups to continue the Legacy of the DeLorean Community.

Really sorry to hear about Roland. Good guy! Hopefully he bounces back soon.

This is a great opportunity for the DOA to be reborn. It slowly evolved into a West Coast club and DW slowly became a travel magazine with less DeLorean content. It would be great to see a new DOA reunite the community and bring together all of the owners that have been fragmented between countless Facebook groups over the years. Would be nice to have a printed magazine and a digital option as well.

If there is an opportunity to join the board, this owner of 23 years would be happy to.

Publishing DW was incredibly labor intensive. I edited it during my tenure on the board in 2017-18 and it was basically like having another full time job. That was only doing two issues a year. In its heyday the DOA had a much bigger board of directors and many of them were retired so they had a lot more time to focus on it. During my run, most of us worked full time or more than full time, and burnout came on fast (at least for me). :8ball:
