Rear speakers

So I got my new radio working and now I find my speakers are cracked. I need to get new ones. I?m only interested in rear speakers. I don?t like the sound coming from the front. I would like to replace them with the best speakers that can be installed without modifications. Can anyone recommend some?

If you still have the original speakers in the front, they are also all cracked from age and should be replaced. If you still don't want any sound to come out of them you can always turn the fade control all the way to the back.

Yes, if the OD of the speaker driver magnets matches the ID of the factory speaker mount. The rear Kickers I installed over 10yrs ago were literally plug and play. Yours may be different.

Look at the parts diagram for the stereo system here (https://store.classicdmc.com/parts/electrical/3-8-0-stereo-system.html). You'll see how the speaker is installed. It isn't attached to the trim panel (no bolts/screws).

Consider installing speaker gaskets - Item #12 on that page - to fill the space between the speakers and each trim panel unless your car has ones you can re-use. My early-VIN didn't have one.

The way the sound works in the Delorean the front speakers provide the higher frequencies and the rear speakers the lower frequencies because of their relative sizes. Use the fader control to increase or reduce the amount of sound you want from the front or the back. It is best to hook up all 4 speakers to get the best balanced sound. The sound system in the Delorean as stock is not all that great by any standards. Only using the rear speakers makes it even worse.

Hmmm, not heard of this. Doesn?t seem like too much base with just the rear speakers.

That's right. Even the best 4x10in speakers can deliver only so much bass due to their small area.

For more bass owners like to install a subwoofer mounted facing out from the storage cubby behind the front seat. You just need one.

I chose one particular page showing Post #82 and a related post #89 both from Dave in Vancouver BC that shows one way to go, including upgrading the power with a sub-amp that lives under the spare wheel.

You can do the factory-size speakers now and add the subwoofer and amp later.

make sure that the baffle seals against the rear quarter panel. use foam like this

I have a sub in the storage area behind the driver seat as part of the Houston audio upgrade. It's great and just what the audio system needs.
