So I?m on a trip hundreds of miles from home and my AC clutch went out. It has pressure and I hot wired the clutch for a second and it doesn?t come in. Can the clutch be changed without disturbing the rest of the system? Anybody know model is the Sandone compressor? Mine is an original AC converted to propane. Do I want a differnt compressor to run propane? I?m sort of thinking of ordering one of the compressors from Deloren Go. They claim they have an upgraded style. But that may only for 134. I don?t want to run that. Not sure what I want to do. I think I might just drive home at night.

Any advice would be appreciated. I?m in central Mississippi at a friends place. He does have a good shop with all the AC tools.

Original compressor is Sanden SD510. Why don't you want to use a R134a compressor? Is it because you have redtek in and you don't want to flush the old oil out?

Yes. Use or fab a clutch puller. You just need a new electromagnet if jumping the compressor wire with 12v+ and ground the case doesn?t make it click. Amazon might have a magnet.

I was thinking the 134 is not designed for redtek. But apparently it is fine. Thanks. I would really just like to change the clutch. Not sure where to get another one.

Check the air gap! If it is too big the clutch will not pull in. You can adjust it by removing shims (washers). It is illegal and very dangerous to use Propane as a refrigerant in a car. In an accident the A/C can become a blowtorch or in a worst case, explode. Convert to R-414a. Try Classic Air in Florida for A/C parts.

So i drove home last nite. I took the clutch off today. The magnet doesn?t work at all. Not sure what ware?s out there. I have a local parts house getting me a new clutch tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Yea, I did have to buy a three arm puller from Harbor Freight. ($25)

You also need a good snap ring pliers.
