This is just something I have been toying about for a few months since becoming an owner of a Delorean.
I'm thinking of designing the next phase of the DMC-12, to be called the DMC-34. Several reasons, the new model (in my dreams) will be released in 2015, which will make it 34 years old. So fittingly, she will be tagged DMC-34.
I understand that DMC have extensive parts and can make several thousand more DMCs over the next hundred years, but what I am proposing is an update, or evolution of the existing car.
So pretty much keeping the basic shape and panels as it, but altering the front and rear bumpers to be in line with modern styling, but still having the original design language in the Delorean. Keeping the rubix cude tailight theme and modernised front square/rectangle/projector headlights. The rest of the panel work (SS) will remain the same to keep the identity of the Delorean. The updates of the front and rear should be made capatible with existing Ds, so if owners are keen, they can change the ends when they like to and back again (I know the front takes a bit of messing around).
I know some of you guys are purists and I am as well, but if DMC are doing major updates in the chassis and mechanical department, I think it should warrant an evolution model of the D in some respect. The interior has been tweeked and why not the exterior?
I haven't had much time to do any drawings for examples, but when I do get pen to paper, I'll post them up.
I'm not expecting anything out of it, but maybe share the passion with some owners/potential owners what can be possible.
And on the flip side, releasing a new model could kill the price and respect of the original Delorean, but to keep the DMC company alive and into more profitability, this could eventuate to better things for the old D. :)

I'm excited to see what you come up with! I love seeing concepts like this. Good luck!

Its just an idea, thats all. The DMC12 will always be, the DMC12. Period.

Yeah, but you know how hardcore the DMC-12 fanboys are. I wouldn't change the car's looks personally, but if you want to do it, go right ahead, I shouldn't be allowed to dictate what you can and cannot do.

Don't get me wrong, I love the D as is. This is just "mucking around" to see what can be done.
Not saying it will be done. Just thoughts and ideas.
Some owners what to put huge rims, lower the ride, put day light running lights, etc. I'm leaving mines as is. :)

I hope, one day, to be able to buy a DeLorean with a blown engine (or no engine) and make it mid-engined/RWD with a turbocharged flat 4. And if I do, I fully expect the ire of the community to be heaped upon me. Hey ho, what can you do? :)

I'm not alone! I've always wanted to do the same sort of thing. What kind of engine would you have in mind, Farrar?

Since this is in the unspecified but assumed very distant future I have no idea! Originally I was thinking of something similar to the engine that is in the Chrysler PT Cruiser GT -- which puts out 230 hp and 245 lb.-ft. of torque -- just about right, I think, for a vehicle of the DMC-12's weight. However, I understand Chrysler has ceased production on that engine along with the PT Cruiser's last model year of 2010. But I am sure in the future something even better will be available. :)

This is to the extreme, but kudos to the concept.

Actually, I like that concept, and don't think it's extreme at all.

To dodge charger for me.
Looks to me like the New Dodge Challenger and the DMC-12 had a love child. I still like it as a concept.

Are there still people out there who believe this BS ?
As far as I have seen they have around 400 doors and all of them are damaged from
the wooden crates.
There is no and never will be a "new Delorean".
Everyday somebody else is telling me that my car is beeing built again...aaaaaargh
Seems like Houston's plan is working :-)

I'm a little too far away to see this for myself. Only what I have read somewhere saying that there were plentiful supply to build new Ds, so if that's the case, it's news for me then.
I'm not hoping for a new Delorean, it's a "what if" topic, that's all. Something fun to think about and play around with as an idea.

I've thought about doing a mod engine conversion on an engineless D. Someone told me recently that it would barely improve the weight distribution so I'd like to crunch some numbers.

You could go nuts and make it rear-engine, front-wheel-drive... :frantic:

Better yet, bury a smartcar engine in the left pontoon, turn the engine bay into a real trunk and ONLY drive the front right wheel. What a hilarious disaster!

I really like the look of the Delorean look alike car in the video Game Burnout Paradise.

Interesting -- five wheel lugs instead of four.
I kind of like the front end of that Jansen thingy. I wonder if the air scooped in by the headlight recesses could be routed to a pair of charge coolers... :wrenchin:
