Has anybody replaced the 3 foam pads that go under the spare?
I just refinished my trunk and need some new ones.
Just wondering if anyone has come across a good product.

Most people leave them out. Any good hardware store CLOSED CELL foam weatherstrip is fine. It does not need to be very thick, you are just trying to dampen tire movement a little.
Open cell (like the original) will hold water and rot the tire bead (just like the original!).

I put some in mine around the sides to keep the tire from moving. Here is a good tip, I spend a lot of time at car lots, when new cars come in off the truck they are covered with cubes and strips of stiff closed cell foam to prevent dings. As a bonus, they have an adhesive backing that usually is still good after removal. Swing by a few car lots and ask the reconditioning shop if you can take a few.

Good tips.
Thanks gentlemen.
We have a local rubber & gasket shop they sells bulk closed cell foam. Many times you can pick up blocks of scrap that make perfect pads.

I never knew there were supposed to be foam pads in there. Must make something up.

Regarding those black foam pads under the spare tire it was explained to me by some fellow Pacific Northwest DeLorean Club members that the foam pads were only used for shipping the DeLorean and were supposed to be removed upon arrival at the dealership.
I am the third owner of my D and there was four pieces of old 6” by 6” (15cm by 15cm) black foam under my spare tire that was falling apart. The weight of the spare tire around the outer edge of the rim had crushed the foam after twenty years or so.
I threw away the old foam and haven’t had any need to buy new closed cell foam for under the tire since it’s not needed.

That's really interesting actually! I had no idea it was just for shipping.
The reason I'd like to put the foam back in is that I spent a good few days refinishing my trunk with fresh black paint. I also put the amp for my sub under the spare.
Having a little padding - as long as it looks nice - would give the tire a little more clearance from the amp and protect my new paint.
