The last thread on this subject just left me more confused,so,just let me ask this.If I were to go to,let`s say Midas and ask for shocks, what would they do?Are there no Monroe`s or Bilsteins that would work? What if I went to my local Napa or Autozone? What then?Thanks,Steve6864.

Midas would probably laugh. Just order some shocks from your vendor of choice, Hervey has a good selection, and find a shade tree mechanic to do the work if you aren't equipped to change them out. It is very easy to change them out in the front, but you have to remove the springs to change the rear shocks.

The look you get almost anywhere is the same as if you asked for shocks for the lunar rover...

Someone might be able to kludge something together from the wrong shocks and a generic collar, but even then its unlikely that it will give you the right performance - and odds are pretty good they would be unsafe.

Our friend Steve here from the post above is a real bloodhound when it comes to searching out aftermarket or cross reference parts - when Steve says buy if from a vendor, believe him - he has already tried I'm sure.

Besides that, the vendors are getting a reasonable markup on these parts, nothing crazy. Given the time and effort involved in finding a product that works well, pressing out oem bushings and replacing them with ones that can take the weight of the car, or for having custom collars milled and then standing behind the results - the prices here are (unfortunately?) pretty fair.

Sometimes parts are priced much higher than might seem fair - because they can - I don't see shocks as really fitting on that list. Now is the time to look around at what everyone is offering up, read the reviews for what is in your price range, and pick. A friend once taught me a valuable lesson that comes to mind here "Sometimes you have to just smile, and pay."
