Mmm

Doesn't look too promising so far. Supposedly The show will be about murder hitmen, Brad Paisley, Condi Rice and Obama. No mention of a DMCEV

Glad I didnt stay up to watch. I felt like I got the best part of the pie from the preview anyway....which really seemed like a full piece rather than a preview.

In the news business, stories often get "bumped" until the next day or so. I'll keep an eye out for it; they went to the trouble of producing the story so they will air it!

DMCH's FB page had this to say

The Nightline producer emailed this morning that the DMCev piece was bumped at the last minute. We're disappointed and apologize to those who had also been expecting to see it. We're told that it may air at a later date, and if so, we'll let you all know. Thank you!

Okay...now we're told the DMCev piece will air on Nightline *tonight*...10:30 Central Time.

Wait a second. It's not April 1st is it? Or the Superbowl deloriam debacle all over again?

If I wait up again to watch it and it gets bumped again, I'll be mighty pissed. And sleepy.

Must get one of those new dangled RVD's or whatever they are called.

Strictly out of curiousity, does DMC offer this as an upgrade to a customer's Delorean? If so what is the price range for taking a nice driving Delorean to electric power?

+1
They said:
$0.02/mile
$90-100k sticker price

I would hope to convert an existing ride would be less than half of that.

Suddenly my statements of "My car is for sale for $50,000.00" don't seem so outrageous. Anyone want to guess how many of those things they actually sell? I'm going to guess 3 and I think that's a fairly optimistic outlook.

Since they are "build to order", just like the remanufactured cars, it really doesn't matter does it? After all, they only build one if they have a buyer. A.K.A. win/win.

Based on the 15 "new-builds" they managed to sell over 5 years with just as much publicity and at 2/3'rds the price. I'd wager 3-7.

According to this article DMCH estimates 300-400

http://www.designnews.com/author.asp?section_id=1366&doc_id=234956

I think they have over estimated their products appeal a hundred fold. Either they are way off or you and I are. We'll see. But based on the lackluster sales performance of the "new-builds" I'm pretty confident with my prediction, maybe I'm being too optimistic with my high end estimate of seven though.

The Tesla sold 2000, and the specs are similar to the DMCEV, but at a higher price. One they bump the range up on the EV (100 miles is the prototype's range, not the production car's) it will be very competitive for that market. I'm not sure if they'll sell 300, but if it does make it to production, I think they will sell more than three.

The thing is Tesla doesn't have to make excuses for a large number of 30 year old parts mixed with some used & reproduction. They build new cars. They are not offering a fancy spin on a restored car with an electric conversion for 100K.

I imagine that they're still using original DeLorean vins, though, as I have no idea how they'd register the cars otherwise.

I hope they do start selling these cars for $100k. That would make my $35k car look much more affordable to potential buyers.

I believe your information is inaccurate. Form what James has said on the old site in the past, no fewer than 20(I'm pretty sure he said 20) new builds have been sold(most of them autos), and that's the new ones with the stainless frames of which they have only been doing for the past couple of years. What the total number of remanufactured cars(stainless frame/powder coated frame) sold to date is anyones guess(except DMCH's of course), but I would venture a guess of around 60+. After all the reman/refurb/new build thing has been going on since what 2004 or 2005?

I'm not going to say it is definitive, but last time I spoke with James at the DMA event he mentioned that if you buy a complete EV DMC with the new under body, it will be similar to buying an A/C Cobra or other "replica" car. He stated that it would be too costly and wasteful to put the new body on a car and crash test it. (The newer body is 200lb lighter to off-set the 200lb weight gain of the batteries).

If they were to do modifications to an existing car and not replace the under body, I see no reason why the VIN couldn't be kept, unless the final prototype of the EV DMC will utilize something in the new under body that cannot be done with the original, thus not allowing for a "new build" DMC with an EV option of not using the new under body.

He also mentioned that they have 4 on order already for 2013.

I've heard varying numbers reported about the sales of their cars for years; there's also some gray area due to their deliberately misleading names. For awhile, they considered a refurbished car separate from their "new build" vehicles. I'm sure we'll also never get a finite answer out of them in regards to the number, either.

For their alleged 4 orders; an order doesn't mean a thing until the car leaves the property. Dealers lots are filled with ordered cars that were never sold.

This story first quoted Leif Montin on 10/15 as stating that 15 "New-Builds" being built/sold to date. The story was updated on 10/17 to a new claim of 41 "New-Builds". Probably after DMCH Cameron or James noticed the discussion in the original EV discussion citing the 15 number from that story.

Any info/facts regarding DMCH as far as their build program is confusing at best as they are not voluntarily forthcoming with info about them and do not respond to questions when asked, and the descriptions have changed.

I would analyze Leif's initial statement and the later correction as 15 "New-Builds" since 2007 and 26 Re-manufactures up to and going back to 2004 or so.

I agree on the 4 order topic, but as I mentioned in my post, it is just what I heard from James and was just sharing information. 8)

I just want to chime in and say this is great. All of the publicity via the news, forums and other sources is amazing. This is like someone else paying to advertise for my company and I love it. The more DMC plans to do and the more mainstream media picks up on events the more my phone rings and the more inquiry's I receive. Because most can't actually afford an EV platform but an original Delorean is more realistic financially. I'm sure DMC is repeating the same benefits directly.

My new line I use every day now is "No we are not building EV cars but we offer this."

It doesn't matter how many cars have been sold or are currently pending etc. They are getting everyone to pay attention to a 30 year old car in a variety of forms past and present are benefiting. This type of advertising is what will keep the Delorean name alive for years to come. I doubt it will ever catch on fully in its update forms but it still builds a renewed interest in the original car as well.

LOL I was hoping you'd offer your own EV, you wouldn't have as much publicity as the misleadingly named DeLorean Motor Company but with their track record (binnacle anyone?) you'd probably be able to bring it to actual market 5 years before them even if you waited to start development until 2013.

We clearly state our builds as "Factory SPEC Builds" or "Performance SPEC Builds" accordingly with a strong understanding up front on the parts used etc.

Again wish there was a facebook style like button. Way to go Josh, your shop doesn't have a misleading name and neither do your products and services. I can't wait to bring my car by for some servicing next spring and finally meet you in person.
