Whether or not you think DMC's sold their soul to the devil of publicity, just keep in mind...
at least we aren't as desperate as Volvo.

There must be a great acronym in there somewhere
Vampires
Or
Lovers,
Volvo

That actor whose name I have forgotten drives a nice black first generation Nova. I was one of many that corrected some London website about the Nova being "super rare even in LA." Sorry, they aren't rare. His was a basic 4 speed without the original engine if I remember correctly.

Chevy Nova or Vauxhall Nova? The latter really would be rare in LA

Chevy Nova, 1963 coupe I think. Robert Pattinson is his name, I had to look it up because it was nagging at my brain.

That's the dude. But being English (or British at least) he might have had a hankering for the Vauxhall - god knows why, though, takes all sorts.

Ugh... That commercial made me feel unclean and I now vow to NEVER buy a Volvo outright... Not like that was going to happen, anyhow, but still...
I'm suddenly a LOT less bitter about DMCH's media-whoring. At least they haven't sold out completely.
For the record, I was driving around in a Volvo-powered vehicle with vampire references before it was cool.

Well, it's still not cool, but whatever makes you happy ;)

This makes me so conflicted... I love my Volvo (manufactured and purchased LONG before that literary abortion was a glimmer in the author's eye, thank you very much) but I hate that the brand is whoring themselves out this way.
Ugh.

I take offense to this statement. The use of the term "abortion" is completely unfitting and offensive and I'm going to explain exactly why.
The term "abortion" id defined as-follows:
a·bor·tion
[uh-bawr-shuhn] noun
1. Also called voluntary abortion. the removal of an embryo or fetus from the uterus in order to end a pregnancy.
2. any of various surgical methods for terminating a pregnancy, especially during the first six months.
3. Also called spontaneous abortion. miscarriage.
4. an immature and nonviable fetus.
It's derived from the word "abort" and its defined as-follows:
a·bort
[uh-bawrt] verb (used without object)
1. to bring forth a fetus from the uterus before the fetus is viable; miscarry.
2. to develop incompletely; remain in a rudimentary or undeveloped state.
3. to fail, cease, or stop at an early or premature stage.
4. Military. to fail to accomplish a purpose or mission for any reason other than enemy action.
5. Rocketry. (of a missile) to stop before the scheduled flight is completed.
I would like to focus on THIS definition from "abort" to preface my statement: 2. to develop incompletely; remain in a rudimentary or undeveloped state.
The characters never develop in addition to the fact that the series was never developed or ever at a state that could even be considered more than a series of words that besmirch the concept of literature. To call those abominations literature is wrong at the very foundation of your claim, but to state that it's a "literary abortion" implies that it ever had the potential of being literature. That is simply not the case. It's no different than me saying that I aborted my plan to restore a boat by drilling holes in the bottom and plugging them with lit explosives. Such a plan would never have a chance at success, nor did that series of fecal stains on what would otherwise have been good paper that is now designated for use as fire-starting aides ever stand a snowball's chance in the fiery furnaces of Hell of ever being literature.

I've been dealing with this problem for a long time now. I'm pretty sure they're trying to steal my collection of Fiero parts that I'm using as a "modern art" installment.
