Ive been away for awhile and catching up.
Replaced 2 speedos in the past which chewed up in less than a hour. Ordered and waited forever on that high dollar overseas that never materialized. Now I am sitting on a one piece cable thats hooked up and yet another DMC speedo. Before I try again thought I would check. Any feedback on John's or if he even has it?
No biggie as gps and hud has served me well but I would like to get that needle moving again. Thanks Jim

I stopped by the local speedometer shop http://www.redlinegaugeworks.com/ and they said they could do it...

You give them your mechanical speedo and they remove the guts, keeping just the face plate. Then they mount a generic electronic unit to the back of the faceplate.

You then need to install pulse generators somewhere - same ones that are used for some cruise controls - on a drive axle perhaps? - and wire it into the speedo -

You then take it out on the road and find a perfectly measured mile - push a calibrate button, drive 1 mile precisely, push it again, and you are done.

The big problem I had with it is that the odometer is digital, but it cannot easily be preset by them to match your actual mileage, and the trip shaft is not likely to line up properly so you would likely have to not use it, drill a new hole, or make a new lens out of acrylic.

I imagine you could manually rig it up on a bench to a pulse generator or the like, set it to read out 160mph off a small motor, and let it run for a few days till you preset the actual mileage.

I did not ask if they have a programmable contact closure to trigger your lambda light, but I can't imagine that being the deal killer.

I imagine they could turn the speedo around in a day or two, so give them a call if this sounds like what you want.

I think that Jimjam is actually referring to Angle Drives, remembering some of his frustrations of yore.

Welcome back Jim btw

I'd give Hervey's a try. The last time I spoak to him on the phone, he said he hasn't had any calls to report failed units. He'll even sell you one with the big nut already installed.

With the electronic speedo mod the angle drive is no longer used...

In about a year I hope to have a complete new instrument cluster with backlighting and a fully electronic speedometer. OEM appearence.

Amen. I've put at least 5k miles on Hervey's angle drive and so far its working just fine. I wish I could say the same thing about the two DMCH angle drives I've purchased in the last two years.

Thanks for the replies.
Sorry about not responding but I am not getting emailed when the post was replied to even thought "I think" the box was checked.

.

Eliminate the through lens switch. Wire a switch to the digital odometer in parallel and locate it somewhere else in the car. Or locate a switch behind the D's reset opening and wire it in parallel to the new odometer's switch and use the existing shaft to push the switch.

Regarding the mileage ... depending on the mileage(such as 100,000), running a frequency generator at an equivalent 160 MPH would take 625 hours to get to 100,000 miles. If you take that route, make sure you don't forget to be there at the proper mileage:mad2:
