View Full Version : What's the strangest thing you've ever found in a DeLorean while working on it?

Under the carpet I've found old coins, a McDonalds burger wrapper, a vintage ad for Stainless Steel Illusion and Fritos in mine. Another DeLorean owner I knew found Polaroids of women in lingerie.

What's are some of the odd things that you've come across while pulling up carpets, and removing panel pieces?

What's the weirdest Cave Painting you've ever found?

I keep finding strange blue and white strands of confetti over all areas of the car. Doesn't matter, inside, on top of frame areas, on top of the engine, ect.

Must have been party night in the factroy. :smoke1:

6 dead mice, all in pairs with corresponding nests.

2 in the trunk, 2 behind the passenger side rear speaker and 2 behind the firewall.

I know there is a wrench in the frame somewhere. I can hear it move when i hit the brakes or corner hard.

Tons of random washers behind the front fascia, some still in packs.

Not all the same car:

3/4 box of (rusty) .38 cal bullets, hiding under a mouse nest in the cubby box. With a Frank Sinatra cassette (cue Sopranos sountrack music)..

5 pounds of large-chunk dog food in the jack compartment, most of it at the extreme right end inside the pontoon..

Very colorful pompoms (like from a kid's winter scarf) under the intake as part of a mouse nest.

Hornet nest completely filling the cavity behind the upper front grille.

Lots of other 80's cassettes.

I'm actually most fascinated by finding prior repair bills (often huge) from decades ago, and then noting that the car has 500 miles put on it since 1988. . . .

I found an allen wrench in the frame. Thankfully it slid to the area I could get it when I was working around the gearshift.

In my other cars I've found a checkbook, pay stubs, Bible, millennium falcon miniature, and tools. I lifted the carpet in a car once and thought I found sod. Turns out it just didn't have a floorboard.

ok, so i dont own a D yet, but i have found some strange things in my vehicles...

in my 1952 Pontiac Chieftain: a newspaper from July 1969 describing what the Apollo 11 astronauts were currently doing in transit to the moon, a Vietnam-era Erotic novel, and a bunch of assorted trash and garbage.

in my 1958 Buick Special: a vintage National Park map (Yellowstone, perhaps?) from a road trip, a window ID sheet from an auction, and a bunch of assorted trash and garbage.

in my 2000 Jeep Wrangler: a live .308 caliber rifle bullet, a bunch of dog hair, a business card to a Bead Boutique :hmm:, and a bunch of assorted trash and garbage.

i keep the .308 bullet around because it amuses me. :gunfire:

I've owned quite a few cars, so here's a few: (Each line is a new car:)

Smirnoff ice cap, receipt from a yarn store, tag from an angora sweater, unopened prophylactic.

Headless Jesus figure, matchbook from the "Shotgun Chapel & Motel," purchase documentation for a 1978 Pontiac Bonneville. (Not the car, by the way.)

Handicapped parking permit, Hershey's Kisses melted in the bag, "Chrysler Lean-Burn Ignition" air cleaner ring. (This was in a Cadillac)

Sunglasses with a bullet hole through them, tube of medical lube, hourglass.

Bottle of Drakar Noir, skeleton key, floppy disk.

Registration to a Toyota Supra.
Several dead mice.
Live snake in the air filter box.
A key to something other than the car.
Roll your own “cigarette” paper.
Several different tools.

I think the most common tool, by far, to find in the car is a small pair of vice-grips hanging from the end of the trunklid release cable.

I'll share a bit of what I found. On my Sebring, there were some times where when I set the car on park and turn it off, the key will not come out. It took several shiftings with the gearshift stick(I guess that is what they are called for automatics too. I am not a car expert) and several ignitions to finally get the key out. After the car was taken to the dealership for that and for an alignment fix (which didn't work), my dad showed me these pieces of elastic strings and told me they were inside the gearshift under the leather, which was why I had so much trouble with getting the key to come out. The strings kept getting in the way of the stick. Suspected it was the previous owner that stuck them in there. For whatever reason, it's a mystery.

I found a crescent wrench under the carpet on the driver's side. Anyone working on the 2004 raffle car for DCS leave it there?

In my daily driver, two petrified frog skeletons underneath the carpet in the passenger foot well.

In the D, there was a ruined old electronic gizmo of some kind (could have been a circuit tester), a cassete tape of some musician I'd never heard of, and a pair of kid's size plastic cheapo sunglasses, all in the storage compartment.

I found evidence of the last repair attempted on my wifes D before it was parked for 12 years - an aftermarket fuel pump mounted outside the tank, pumping fuel into the return line... (sigh)

If you consider it a tool, I'd also add golf T in the valley to is list.

When I removed the trim piece above the rear window of 16647 I found this Britool 13mm wrench. I keep it hanging on a nail on the wall knowing it was used to assemble the car.

I have a mosquito hawk (Texas sized mosquito) that is somehow trapped between my instrument cluster and the clear lens. HTF?

Hmmmm, Chad was right. Looks like the DeLorean can double as the creepy man's big black van.....
